  1. hey everyone!

    Hey AC1D ;) !

I thought the film was ok. I don't quite agree how they tied the word "hacker" too an ideology. I think some people are hackers even though they don't follow the ideology represented in that movie.

  2. It has always been Intel vs AMD, although i approached it a little differently.

Why does it have to be. I say base every product on it's on merit and not apply a name to it. I want to see benchmarks and review on "products". I don't want biased people giving reviews on a "brad name labels"!

I've owned both AMD and Intel about 50/50. I never fall into the AMD v.s. Intel trap. I go with the "which product at the time it's released is most viable" argument, based on benchmarks and reviews.

The main reason there's this huge AMD v.s. Intel mind set, is because those are the only two main companies out there. So there's only Two major types of CPU's to bar against each other (sadly).

  3. Seriously who gives a toss about the pronunciation all anybody really cares about is what it does.

Not that I'm taking sides on how Jasagar should be pronounced, but there is a reason why words only have one way to be pronounced. It's called continuity, if some people started pronouncing "car" like "care" there would be confusion, and not everybody would be on the same page. Jasager is like any of the other foreign word, just because it's a German word doesn't mean we have to be uneducated about It!

  4. How did this "Core i7 vs Phenom II" thread turn into an AMD vs Intel issue. As for this thread topic: Core i7 is more future proof imo, spend a few extra bucks and get something that might last 6 months longer. The fact that it supports DDR3 is big factor for me, DDR3 is going to obviously be the replacement for DDR2 so why don't invest into the future. That my take on it.

  5. YODM is alright, but Shock4Way3D is even better. Check it out and i am sure you will use it a lot more than yodm.

The guy that wrote Shock4Way3D, built a program to have windows aero in xp, so check it out too.

Wow, I can't believe I never heard of this. It's interactive, you can see in real time whats going on in each desktop, just like compiz. Not as good as compiz, but better than yodm imo.

It has four options of displaying your desktops too.

  6. Mepis is the only distro that works out of the box with it (so far) but I dont like the way it's all setup.. guess i'm just a typical ubuntu user :P

Is it KDE you don't like?

Gnome is closer to a wind0wz experience, KDE I feel is more genuine. Imo of course.

  7. One thing I will give to our Tafe's IT Department is they at least had the foresight to setup a bios password, however nothing was stopping me from cracking the case open while a teacher went out for a lengthy coffee break and remove the battery.

    . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

    . . . . . . . . . . . .

    . . . . . . . .

Uhhhh, The bios isn't the boot menu ?!?!

You can set boot priority in the Bios but it's not the same as the boot menu. The usual hotkeys for boot menu's are f11 or f12. It boots you into a selection of all the thing that the computer could potentially boot into, I.E. USB hard drive CD-rom ect . . .

My school is the same as yours, they put a password on the Bios when you try to get into it, but not the boot menu.

  8. Boot from a usb on their computer and install any version of Linux you like. If your going to break school rules go the whole 10 yards.

P.S. Every school institution I've ever been to never locks down the boot menu key. Kinda sad imo.

  9. I am STILL waiting for built in support of my atheros card in my laptop for a linux distro...

Wow, that is fascinating, I've always had great support for ather0s cards in Linux. The main reason being most ather0s cards have Linux drivers that support packet injection (People want packet injection). If you haven't already, you should go post a thread in the Ubuntu forums about a driver, I have yet to find a wireless card that I couldn't get working in some way with Linux. Custom kernel, ect . . .

  10. Oh my, I always thought YODM was a cheap imitation of Compiz Fusions cube addon. Not that YODM isn't a great feature for wind0wz. I just think that the ease of use and final result of Compiz Fusions cube is SOOO much better, that's just my two cents.

If my Wind0wz desktop gets too cluttered I just use a basic desktop manager that gives me four virtual ones. When I used YODM cube it seemed sub-par.
