  1. @jigglebilly Good luck with that phone, hopefully it doesn't fall apart on you.

Thanks, so far it seems ok. You're right though...the keyboard doesnt feel too solid.

I'm hoping there will be an app or hack to get shell access eventually, maybe once the SDK goes public.

It was quite brilliant how easily the phone synced with my google account. Everything, my gmail, calandar, and contacts were all imported.

I've also noticed that it automatically updates my contacts on the phone, when I update them through a browser.

But so far I'm very satisfied with it, I see a lot of potential.

  2. So my old HTC Mogul died today. I need a new phone and I'm stuck with sprint because my parents still pay for it (if they didnt, I wouldnt pay for a plan myself and they wouldnt ever be able to get a hold of me)

but anyway....I need a new phone and I want to get one that has an active modding community. I havent really been paying attention to phones the last few years. Can you guys help?

I'm looking seriously at the following models:

    • Palm Pre
    • Samsung Instinct
    • HTC Touch Pro

I'd probably have to be talked into one of the blackberry style phones that palm makes...but would be interested if you guys know something I don't.

    thanks in advance :)

edit: the phone must have Shell access of some sort... I heard rumors of HTC making a linux Sprint phone, but I cant wait any longer.

  3. sorry for the delay...my site is back online. Let me know if you have any questions..

also as an update. I have the lamp blinking the blue LED twice whenever someone hits my site, and it blinks red twice whenever an inbound or outbound call is made from my asterisk server :)

  4. I’ve successfully written a bash script that runs once every minute. The script detects whether or not my server is online by issuing a simple ping request. Based on results of the ping request(s), the arduino will display a green LED when the server is online or a red LED if the server is offline.

The project also notifies me when I get a new email on my gmail accoun, when a user hits my webpage, when an outbound call is made through my asterisk server, or when a call is received on my asterisk server.

My suspicion is that I can actually script this project to work with an actual nagios server.

I've attached some pics of the final product, but there are more pictures (and the code for the project) at my project page:

  5. yeah, I understand why most people would want a battery pack. This project was more for me, kinda the training wheels for opening up my hardware and altering it. I like this hack because you can still use the AC adapter that came with the FON.

BTW, anyone know how to fix the error message when I plug the USB from my FON into my computer? I'll get a screen shot of it when I get home.

  6. Is there any way to restore all the stuff i put on there like ruby, webif, and haserl and jasager and go back to gargoyle and restart all the installing of those?

You also mentioned that you think you messed up a few parts of the install. You should be able to flash the firmware again using Freifunk EasyFlash. It looks like the first step of the guide you linked.

You may want to wait for digininja to reply though, as he may have better insight than I do.
