Played the demo. Seems like a cool game. I love the grainy effect. I played online, but my lag was nearly unbearable. Played it with a few buddies on expert. Beat it, thought it was pretty cool. I had some issues running is 1280x1024. Might be that my box is getting old, or maybe because i haven't updated drivers. I updated my drivers and eventually I'll give it another go.

With a good box, and the latest release of Wine, you can install Steam most of the games flawlessly. (You don't even have to install the font anymore.) The performance was the same in both Windows in Linux, though I must admit, it did look a little more grainy in Linux. The main games I played were CS:S and DOD:S, so I'd imagine Portal and HL2 would work.
I have played Nexuiz, but I have only installed it on Laptops, it seems to have screen 'flickering' issues.

Yea, for my first con, everyone was super cool. I got to mess with the root wars boxes, and by the end of the night I knew most of the passwords to the boxes. It was pretty cool stuff.
Did you get any footage of TelcoBob and his kickin' stereo? That would be awesome behind the credits or whatever.

wait, what? they were broadcasting the talks on the televisions in the hotel rooms? dude I really wish I knew that before. Damn! Coulda brought a box with a big HDD and a tuner card and slurped 'em all down ;)
Yea, they had the cams set to broadcast to channel 16 throughout the hotel. Unfortunately, our room had a crappy line. It was barely viewable and the audio was mostly noise. I doubt it would be very conducive for recording.
It was a cool talk, I enjoyed it. it was really cool meeting you guys, even though I was completely drunk.
Cheers,

Big fan. Been watching since S1E3. Migrating form this forum to a recent 6 year go with another forums. Unfortunately my old place-to-be has been milked dry. These forums spiked my interest, so I decided to migrate.
Sounds lame, I know.
Anywho, I am a 19 year old student in Indiana. I've been into computers since MS-DOS6 with DOOM and Wolfenstein. I've been getting into anything and everything ever since.

what was your first linux distro?

My fist Linux attempt was Slackware. It took me 2 weeks to figure out how to boot the cd on an old 486. once I finally figured out sbootmgr and burned through a case of flippies, I couldn't have been happier. Now, with Ubuntu and KDE on all our university boxes, I am missing the simple Fluxbox. All in all, it was a bitch to add programs to the system until you got the hang of it. Even then, hardware support at the time sucked, so I ran VESA graphics and through the 10 mb ethernet nic.
Requardless, I compiled my first kernel and had a hell lot of fun with it.
Then I did a stage one Gentoo install... That was fun... NOT. But I did learn A LOT, so I'll mention i
t.
Today with Ubuntu, I miss some of the control I had with my init scripts (I delved under the GUI in ubuntu yet.)
And I must say, OH how WINE has gotten SOOO much better these last few years.
