  1. I've got a Veeam Backup Server running win server 2008 r2 with Veeam backup and replication.

Currently backups are saved to local disk on that machine. I'd like to have some physical media to carry off site. Currently the Executives want me to do TAPE backups but that solution for a SAS card and tape loader is going to be around $7k for a G2 LTO4 Ultr 1760 with 8 tapes, cleaning cart etc. I'm thinking a SAS card on my Dell T610 connected to some SAS back plane with SAS drives would be cheaper and faster. I just feel tapes are an archaic way to do backup for physical carry off site.

  2. I was thinking about giving The Sleuth Kit a try, but wanted to get some opinions over people that have used it.

sleuthkit.org is the official web site for The Sleuth Kit and Autopsy Browser. Both are open source digital investigation tools (a.k.a. digital forensic tools) that run on Windows and Unix systems (such as Linux, OS X, Cygwin, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, and Solaris). They can be used to analyze NTFS, FAT, Ext2, Ext3, UFS1, and UFS2 file systems and several volume system types.

The Sleuth Kit (TSK) is a C library and a collection of command line tools. Autopsy is a graphical interface to TSK.

Would be nice to use encase but that stuff is just crazy expensive.

Someone was using a temp location to store quicken data files.. Go figure, then she clears the temp folder. Would you guys use Sleuth Kit or is there a quicker easier opensource/free software out there to do this?

    Thanks!

  3. I've got a consultant that wants to do some work migrating meta data from my boss to SharePoint. Thing is he's asking for VPN access and access to the SharePoint Server. Usually I don't worry about this guy is highly technical. I don't want him logging into other servers on the domain, how would I go about giving him the access he needs on the SharePoint Server without him screwing with anything else? I usually do my work on the servers in Administrator mode. I'm a one man show which makes it hard to Ping from other people.

  4. yeah this month is nutz at work how about the 2nd or 3rd week of January. Gives time for people to get back from traveling and well out of the holiday mess.

that's true, but I think lots of people will be out for this thanksgiving the weekend before and after. we could push it to December 6th?
