  1. I'll give it a miss on second thoughts, cos I don't wanna be a burden on you lot.

I'll leave it another couple of years. I can travel more then too.

Plus I have no one to go with anyhoo, I have no friends in tech.

Hope it goes well for you all :)

  2. Yeah, I don't need babysitting. No offense taken. :)

Just needed something to do and thought it might be a good opportunity to meet up with like minded people and learn some interesting stuff and have a good time.

NOONE anywhere near me knows the slightest about tech. I am the sysadmin for the local primary school - you get the picture. :P

  3. Hey guys, It might be too late now but I would be interested in coming along (if its still alive?)

I'm in Hope, Derbyshire but we have a train to Sheffield or Manchester

    I have watched Hak5 since I was 13 :P bit of a fanboy!

I'm really interested in tech and learning new stuffs.

I'm only 16 though :(, but parents are fine, and I have finished all my exams, its something to do!

I'll probs bring a friend too, if thats ok?

  4. I have 2 lists one for school and one for any other time,

    School:

    1. Schoolbooks (usually 5-10)
    2. MacBook (white)
    3. MacBook charger
    4. Pencilcase
    5. Jacket
    6. iPhone (1G) charger cable (even EDGE sucks the battery down WAY too fast)
    7. 2GB USB stick
    8. Mirror (I'm vain)
    9. Deodorant (The vanity creeps back though)

Other times is everything above minus the schoolbooks.

My pockets are usually fill most of the time with:

    1. An iPhone
    2. Money (not a great deal of it)
    3. Chewing Gum
    4. iPhone Headphones, kinda the reason i baught the iPhone, so I had an iPod, a camera and a phone in one
    5. Keys, often forgotten, big mistake!
  5. Thanks for the suggestions so far.

I think I might go with CentOS as my cousin (a sysadmin) is familiar with RedHat and has recommended it to me as well.

It has Ubuntu desktop 8.0 on it at the moment, but I have used ubuntu in the past and I really want to learn something new.

Thanks again guys and please keep suggesting. :)

    P.S. The specs are :

    • ~300gb made from 7 HDD's
    • 628mb RAM
    • Pentium 3
    • 100gbit LAN PCI card
    • the OS is installed on a 12gb SCSI 1 drive

So much power (not) I'm not sure what to do with it!

  6. I'm wondering what server OS I should use for an old comp I have been given (its quite slow and old, but has loads of SCSI and IDE ports).

I already have a Time Machine for my Mac backups. I do have tonnes of old HDD's lying about though.

I also have a terminal-like thing which runs as my mail server.

I would have liked to use it for testing (PHP, Java, SQL, etc).

I was wondering about a media server like MythTV, but I don't want it to just be a media server.

I'm fine with learning something new, and I don't care for a GUI, so please suggest. :)
