my playroom

this is my home network, i bought most of these computers at thrift stores, got for free, really cheap, or they're just old and i've just reformatted and updated them they all run red faction, even the macs (with the exception of the g3 powerbook and Power Macintosh 6500), all macs (8) run bolo tho, 8 of them run call of duty 1 and call of duty uo. 8 also run smokin guns. 2 other laptops were free too (one is a g4 powerbook). the "web server" is a g3 blue and white. its not the best but its low power. i don't run it very often tho. I set up apache servers on most to run their own http servers if i need to transfer something quick and i dont want to remote login, or if i do something cross platform. With the macs i can run windows remotely, or i can play dvd's or other media remotely, its interesting but not very useful cause its mostly all in one room. i plan on putting making one into a dvr for my living room, but theres not much point either cause i dont have cable or satellite. i had one setup in my living room and also had some emulators on it for nes, snes, etc. with some ps2 controllers but it was ugly loud, slow, and couldnt play dvds for some reason, so i just hacked a old xbox i found. also i have a Apple Farallon EtherMac iPrint hooked up to a really old HP laserjet 4mp so i can wirelessly print without a server on a ridiculously old printer. i also have a busted brother laserjet hooked up that only prints one at a time and you have to sit there and load it one by one (they don't make laserjets like they used to, but i still have a ton of toner for it). its major ghetto but its fun playing with 8 friends on red faction, bolo, or smokin guns, i usually smoke them at cod uo. the biggest drawback is my dsl connection it is weak and noisy craps out in windy or rainy weather but the only thing available in at my address, its wierd i've checked online and all the houses around mine can get cable internet but mine. grrr!! angry.gif!! oh well dry.gif
