Very simple home network, but combining LANs in two houses, and using three methods of connecting to the internet (True Ethernet, Cable and ADSL), so we NEVER should be off-line. Unless there is a city wide power outage blink.gif

Get some UPS's and diesel generators, then you can burn the lights and watch Hak5 while the whole neighbourhood listens to battery powered radios by candlelight smile.gif

Well, have that sort of in place.

I have a 600w 12V to AC power converter, and I just hook that up to the car, and I can have my Internet and/or TV and satellite receiver going, while the city is dark.

In the small town I used to live in (abt. 4000 people) we would once or twice a year experience a city wide power outage that would last 1-2 hours.

Very annoying if you were in the middle of your weekly show or a good movie!

These days (city size is abt. 70.000) I only experience power outages once every three years or so. That’s too seldom to warrant too many UPS's.

Have however made a separate AC "grid" in the apartment so i only need to connect one extension wire to have power to Internet, PC and entertainment centre.

No, what's annoying me these days are the weekly outages on the cable internet connection, and the monthly periods with package dropouts on the otherwise TrueEthernet Internet connection.

I AM addicted enough to the hakhouse.com filming of the weekly Hak5 episodes to NEED a proper number of Internet connections, to keep that experience alive.
