I'm looking for software that will alert me before any registry changes can be made it prevents outgoing traffic, etc...

When you say "any registry changes" do you literally mean all? Because Windows is changing stuff all the time.

TeaTimer is good a stopping registry changes that effect stuff you care about.

Combined with Sunbelt's free firewall you have all the functionality you asked for. if you are using Vista, you could use the built in firewall as well.

I think tea timer does a pretty good job. I am still undecided on the whole firewall debate though. No room at home to set up smoothwall atm. :(

when i used to use windows i used a program called scotty winpatrol or somthing like that, i forgot the name but its quite a handy little app. Maybe you could try that

Please consider if you need a firewall. If you have a router with nat you don't need a software firewall to block incoming traffic. If you need a firewall to block outgoing traffic because you don't trust your machine, I can't help you :)

Kaspersky internet security works great as an av anf firewall in one. but if i were to choose for a stand alone firewall id say Outpost. It really is one hack of a good firewall
