I had to tab out the originally posted code to get it to work:

import urllib2
subs = ["www","wi","wik","wiki","forum","forum"]
for sub in subs:
        site ="http://"+sub+".hak5.org"
        try:
                urllib2.urlopen(site).readlines()
                print site
        except:
                pass

But after that it worked like a champ.
