USBHacker
Hi Yesterday in class people were giving me stuff on there USBs and I was giving them stuff on there USBs, and almost all of them had a VIRUS (including the autorun) So I right-click explore, deleted the RECYCLER folder and autorun.inf On 4 different USBs! They didn't even know they had it! What's the world coming to? BTW: The course I'm doing is an IT course (on networking)... and we're already one semester into it. I thought they should be a little smarter?

Jayze
What kind of virusses did you found on them USB sticks ? Correct me if I'm wrong, but only the autorun.inf can cause the virusses to become active , right ?
Gianluca
I'm saying that the 'Ha, you're using windows' thing is really old- so please give it a rest. yeah, that's true, you're perfectly right. It's a old thing to say, but I can't resist... that's life What kind of virusses did you found on them USB sticks ? Correct me if I'm wrong, but only the autorun.inf can cause the virusses to become active , right ? The basic way for an average USB virus to activate itself is relying on a modified autorun.inf and on the user who has to click the "right option" on the quick-launch menu that appears when you insert a USB stick. However, there are so much ways for a virus to get rid of these "inconvenients". I remember that Darren showed a couple of these techniques in episode 2x02 in which he used the so called Max Damage Technique with a U3 compliant USB stick. For the list of possible techniques see: http://wiki.hak5.org/wiki/USB_Switchblade
shido
ok now i think i havte step in.... Some virii dont need that autorun fr them to launch from the usb. Ive seen virii that infect the computer just by the user opening a folder in the usb. And once i seen a computer get infected with out any user interaction but maybe its the type of usb they used
Gianluca
And once i seen a computer get infected with out any user interaction but maybe its the type of usb they used The usb type you refer is the U3 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U3). U3 compliant usb sticks can appear like cdrom drives so winXP launch the autorun function without any interaction with the user. The sandisk cruzer micro is one of these. shido
So everyone should move to Vista right? Right? Guys right? Not linux. No way. Thats a matter of opinion, i personaly dont like Vista so i stick to my linux, i can get way more done on it and at a faster pace. Like i said its just opinion if you want to move to Vista then go ahead, thats not to say Vista cant get infected too
Gianluca
xp is far better than vista, there's no doubt about it. But windows users are always forced to move to the newer OS, so they have no choice; if the world around you is using vista you cannot continue to use xp. The only way to avoid this is to change world and become a linux or mac user.

Leapo
xp is far better than vista, there's no doubt about it. Lets do a quick headcount here. Windows Vista has the following going for it: Better security including a privilege elevation scheme not unlike that used in OSX and Linux. A modernized interface utilizing 3D hardware to accelerate rendering (means Aero is actually faster to run than Basic on appropriate hardware). Support for icons up to 128x128 (Note that XP was limited to 48x48). Native support for the management of NTFS junction points and hard links. Instant search system based on an XML search database. The new "Previous Versions" feature which lets you revert any document on your system via shadow copy. Integrated support for widgets/gadgets. The Windows Task Scheduler is nolonger completely useless, its been given an overhaul in Vista. 64bit Vista has extremely good driver support compared to XP 64bit. DirectX 10 Support. For a full list see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Features_new_to_Windows_Vista And Windows XP has: Marginally better backwards compatibility and legacy hardware support. Slightly better tolerance for badly written drivers But windows users are always forced to move to the newer OS, so they have no choice; if the world around you is using vista you cannot continue to use xp.Since when? If Windows XP is doing everything you need it to then nothing is stopping you from continuing to run XP. People still run Windows 98 and are perfectly happy with it. The only way to avoid this is to change world and become a linux or mac user.Hate to break it to you, but Apple releases updates to OSX you'll have to pay for if you want to use new features, and there's a new build of any given version of Linux every day. I think u are a windows user, maybe the so common brainless vista users... this is very sad...Yes, I use Windows. My desktop has Vista Ultimate x64 on it and my laptop has Vista Home Premium x64 on it (dual booting with Ubuntu). As for being brainless, you have absolutely no idea who you're dealing with right now. You need to face reality and accept that Windows XP is nearly 7 years old. If it still works for you, then great, but Windows Vista is a fine replacement and a much more internally modern operating system. I've moved forward and Windows XP no longer meets my needs; not to mention it can't optimally use all of my hardware (No DX10 support on my DX10 graphics cards, can't run 64bit XP because driver support is so spotty, can't address all 6GB of my RAM under 32bit XP). I'm done with you, it's plain as day you're the average noobie scorning Windows and putting your OS of choice up on a pedestal like it's a gift from God. You're new around here and with your current attitude I don't see you being around very long. Goodbye.
Gianluca
Ahahah.. long answer full of quotes means "I don't want to admit you're right. People says the same things but I still don't want to admit it". Microsoft itself admitted that vista is a joke that no one wants (said it in other words of course). Ask google if you don't believe me. I'll not answer you anymore. bye.
