EA to PC Gamers: “Install 3 times? Buy another copy”

this is pure bs honestly. i dont like the idea of it and if its not expressly stated in the eula im more tha willing to bet ea will get their asses sued majorly.

i predict a cracked version of all the games within a week of their release.

i dont pay for pc games. i dont pirate. i just play the free to play online games or open source games. the only game company i would consider paying for is id software. they seem to understand how piracy is and some of the source to their games is included when you pay for them. they even have a game thats totally free. wolfenstein enemy territory. totally free and source is readily available. even the quake engine they use to make their games is under an "open" license. they do things right. and i have a lot of respect for them.

basically if its not on console and isnt by id i dont pay for it.

More like one week before release. On topic, I cant stand all this copy protection/drm stuff that is so prevalent these days, when I buy a product I don't want strings attached software that has to be running or x amount of installs. In most cases a Scene release of a game will be superior to its retail counterpart, because it wont require Steam/copy protection software running in the background.

wtf is with all the recent anti-piracy bs anyway? it does absolutely nothing to stop people from cracking it. every pc game ever made probably has at least 5 different cracked versions, hundreds of keygens, and private servers and crap. anti piracy has come a long way in technology. but they have made no headway on their problem at all. there is no way at all to stop a game from getting pirated. its not possible. there are millions of hackers(if not billions) across the world and damn near all of them play video games. and of those that play im sure a large number crack games. theres no possible way. every game company in the world could put all their employees together and it wont equal 1/10 of the people playing and cracking their games. its shear numbers. while they have 10 people working on 1 way to protect a game. thousands are working simultaneously to break that protection.

nothing is hackproof. even some steam games(last i checked anyway) have cracks that even allow online play over steam. and most of those that dont have that have ways to connect to free servers and ghost servers to play on. even world of warcraft has tons of private servers(and some damn good ones at that). theres ways around paying for everything software. no computer software is available for purchase that cant be gotten free one way or another. drm and anti-piracy is a futile effort that only costs money to produce, costs sales, and fucks legit buyers.

quick question, if you dont like teh service of something, and you pirate it, then send the price of the game, for Mass Effect well say 50, to the publisher, in the mail. is it still pirating? i know the definition, but legally is it?

I hope you guys realize that the Direct2Drive versions of these games DO NOT have the 3 install limit. Bought Spore on Direct2Drive, burned it to a DVD, and installed it on 4 PCs without any issues.

If you want to support the developers and not EA's tactics with SecuROM, then grab the games on Direct2Drive (or better yet, Steam if they're available there). Simple as that.
