Mn Posted May 22, 2008 Share Posted May 22, 2008 What if instead of taking your 1-10 lb laptop to class to take notes you take something lighter that does not cost an arm and a leg. What if you can take your home made hack to class and show off while being productive... Picture this: Keyboard + Portable storage unit Maybe even one of those flexible portable keyboards hooked on to a little box that you can plug in a USB key to store the information you type. When you go back to your house plug the usb key into your computer, run your favorite office suit and fix the grammar errors if any. All though this idea can be further exploited in to something much more lets say include a small LCD or one of those horizontal scrolling text things you see on airports. Agreed my PDA has an attachment, and my HipTop has a QWERTY built in, both run Mobile Office. But i was hoping to spark a future hack or maybe to get some feedback if there has ever been an attempt to make something like this... But hey its good and i might buy it. Its good to take notes while we are with patients and the attending doctor\resident\specialist is discussing the case or explaining something. I like it. All you would have to do to retreive the info would be to plug it into a computer and dump the recorded keystrokes into like Word. Though lack of screen would make it hard to get spellings correct. Yeah, cool, always in my pocket ! This nice nifty thing is running linux (angstrom-distribution) running all needed tools for wireless hacking (even wireshark), full office (Abiword), E-Mail (claws-mail), pidgin, browser (dillo), IRC, multimedia and - most important - running a shell. I can picture a roll up keyboard tied into an lcd that sits in an Altoids can with sd card inside to store the notes. Not sure how the wiring would go, but all you need is a little serial board that can just type text to the lcd, and write it to a file on the sd card. Not pretty or as convenient as a real device, but fun to have and maybe build.
