PoyBoy
The food establishment I work for uses a computer system running the Res 3000 software by micros. In this system, there is a manager magnetic swipe card. One day it was lying around, and I swiped it. The manager screen came up and the was one button that looked very usefull... the minimize screen button. Also, We have wi-fi at the resteraunt and that was taken out for two weeks becauses there was supposedly a vulnerablility, as the machines need to be on the internet. If anyone knows anything else, feel free to post. Has anyone seen my white hat?
Sparda
Make a copy of the card... and use it for your own evil doing (i.e. Steal money and food)?

PoyBoy
Come on, i'm not going to steal. anyone who knows me would know that, but you guys obviously dont. whatever. I have looked out of curiosity and haven't found a magnetic card read/write machines that have a standalone option. Oh ya, another thing they do at the aforementioned establishment is that they keep their same up in an office that is protected by privacy lock only. **Did I mention that the same is digital (buttons) and not a dail?** Seems like the place is asking for trouble. I DO NOT ENDORSE STEALING AND WOULD NEVER DO ANYTHING ILLEGAL OR WRONG. THIS IS MERELY A STATEMENT DESCRIBING THE IDIOCY OF THE BOSSES AND THE SOTWARE MAKERS. THIS IS MERELY A STATEMENT DESCRIBING THE IDIOCY OF THE BOSSES AND THE SOTWARE MAKERS. I hate the way you lump wrong and illegal together. There are plenty of things that are illegal which I wouldn't consider wrong (e.g. possession of most recreational).
PoyBoy
Good point. The Enron bullcrap a few years ago seems like it might not have been illegal, but it certainly was wrong.

PoyBoy
about the card cloning, are there any ways to clone magnetic cards on-site (not taking the card itself?)
Shaun
Well if it's a standard magnetic stripe card there are devices to capture the information on them on-site for later cloning (which is a method of credit card fraud that things like the UK's Chip and PIN system or France's Carte Bleue system is designed to prevent - although Chip and PIN currently doesn't because they still have the mag stripes on in addition to the smartcard thing). I think these kind of devices are kind of costly though, and possibly illegal in some places.
