engineman
I recently received a USB drive at a career fair at school. However, everytime I plug the thing in, internet explorer opens up the companies career page. The drive appears to be using technology similar to U3 since there is an extra CD-ROM drive that appears on the computer and it contains all of the autorun stuff. Could someone please point me in the right direction to removing this from my drive?
IOSys
I might be able to help you depending on what brand your flash-drive is (or rather : the controller-chip) If you post the VID/PID and other info about your drive I might be able to provide you links to the necessary tools . You can get the information by downloading this nice tool from nirsoft : http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html
engineman
Thanks for your help. VID: 1976 PID: 6025 Here is the whole info as reported by USBDeview

Device Name Description Device Type VID PID USB Class USB SubClass USB Protocol

Flash Disk USB Flash Disk USB Device Mass Storage 1976 6025 08 06 50

IOSys
Hmm, VID 1976 doesn't appear in any of the vendor-lists but PID 6025 appears to be this controller : CBM2080 Flash drive controller http://www.chipsbank.com/en/product/xx/cbm2080.htm according to THIS post http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?sho...st&p=116954 the tool to reprogram it should be available somewhere, unfortunately the download-link is dead . But since the manufacturer probably has changed at least the VID the best way to make sure is to disassemble the drive (carefully) and read the markings on the controller-chip . ------Tools like this are not meant for "normal" users. I have a machine setup ONLY for such tasks as installing them may or may not mess with your standard usb-drivers . ABSOLUTELY NO GUARANTEES - USE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK - and RTFM first !!! ---- EDIT : I found a collection of production-tools for USB-devices on a Chinese geek-board and uploaded the CBM2080 tool and the English manual here : http://www.wikiupload.com/download_page.php?id=35427 NOTE : Some AV's don't like the file, this could be because of the Chinese characters OR it could actually be infected so use at your own risk : http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/0bb166e...241f6493a177819 I will upload the entire collection later . engineman
Thanks for all of your help. I opened the drive up and the chip appears to be a CBM1190. Do you have any tools that will work with this chip? UPDATE: I tried both the CBM2080 tool and the FlashDiskManager program in the links that you sent me. Neither seems to recognize the drive. Also based on the manual with the CBM2080 program, you need to have a special programming board in order to use the program.
engineman
I found your other post with a collection of production tools. I used the CBM2090 tool (according to CBM's website the 2090 is pin identical to the 1190), and it let me reformat the drive and now the extra CD drive is gone. I also think that with a little bit of fiddling it would let me put a custom autorun ISO on the drive so I could make a switchblade drive if I wanted to. Very cool! Thanks for your help. engineman
I tried the U3 removal tool, but it didn't recognize it as a U3 drive, which is why I came here in the first place. I had to use a production tool that IOSys uploaded in a different post.
IOSys
Glad to hear you found a tool that worked . Yes, judging by what the manual says you should be able to set up your own ISO, you can even control the size of it . The production-tool collection is here : http://forums.hak5.org/index.php/topic,8630.0.html

acmp
I have a similar issue to this. The key sets up an auto run 'CD' with a presentation on it. Very annoying. I've got the tools form this topic but can't get them to work. The VID is 0204, PID shows as 6025 but the chip is ID'd as CMB2091 I've tried the CMB2080 and CMB2090 tools but neither seem to work. CMB2090 crashes when run on my XP box. Any ideas what tool I need to remove the presentation?

bloodrider
I've a similar problem. I checked the info about my usb pen drive with usbview: serial number: 000878 VID: 2008 PID: 2018 USB class: 08 USB subclass: 06 USB protocol: 50 I think the controller is MW6208 and I need UdTools 1.0.2.9. The problem is these tools seem to be available only at a chinese site http://bbs.mydigit.cn/read.php?tid=4345, only members can download and to register you need an invitation code :( I really want to get rid of this "automount cdrom" on my pen drive, can anyone provide me with the tools or an invition code? Thanks in advance ;)

der_musterknabe
Hey, i've got an similar problem with my usb pen and also want to get rid of this "extra" CD Drive. usbview gave me this informations: Device Name Mass Storage Description USB USB 2.0 Flash USB Device Device Type Mass Storage VendorID 058f ProductID 6387 USB Class 08 USB SubClass 06 USB Protocol 50 I could not figure out the controller chip. Hopefully you could help me out with some tools or tell me how to solve this. Thanks in advance
IOSys
Based on the VID/PID it sounds like a Transcend-drive ? They use Alcor-controllers in a lot of their drives, production-tools for Alcor can be found here : http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=e...%3Fname%3DFiles A good tool to identify your UFD's controller can be downloaded here : http://www.mydigit.cn/mytool/chipgenius.rar If a mfg-tool is available for your UFD it will even show a link to the tool. Unfortunately the files are on a Chinese board that requires registration and "points" to download but all the files are also available on the Russian board :) Edit : If it IS a Transcend you might find something useful here as well : http://www.transcendusa.com/Support/DLCenter/

Bunkai
The USB drive that I'm trying to format is branded only as CISCO and when I use the USBDeview tool, it says that the VID and PID are both 0000 and the description is just "2.0 USB Device". IOSys
According to the user-manual the device must be connected to the host before running the tool : http://www.prolific.com.tw/support/files/%...tility_v11B.pdf PL-2515/2515PRO/2518 Software and Drivers : http://www.prolific.com.tw/eng/downloads.asp?ID=
