If I recall correctly the movie was a showcase for the open source Blender modelling program. As such, its goal is not to impress with great storytelling or acting, but more to dazzle with the visual experience it brings.

Personally, I experienced it precisely as advertised: weird/boring/stupid/slow storyline, but impressive visuals.
