Swampthing
I would like to rip my DVD collection to a BitTorrent and Orb server. What would be the best format to use for both, and what would be a good tool to rip them with?
TheZ
http://www.wikihow.com/Rip-DVDs-to-Small-A...Formatted-Files an AVI file is a good format but maybe compress it to an mp4 to save bandwith.
Shaun
AVI is a container format and MPEG4 is a compression format. It's not really good in any way except there is a widespread ability to play AVI files (since it's a Microsoft format their applications can understand them). If you want a more advanced container that can have multiple audio streams and subtitles you could use Ogg or Matroska. Matroska also supports menus like on DVDs. Using an MPEG4 implimentation is probably good advice, I use XviD but there are others. Ripping DVDs, not sure, I use mencoder, but since you didn't research this yourself and asked on a forum instead (I'm not downing you for that or anything, I'm just guessing you want somthing that's simple to use) I recommend something with a GUI. Swampthing
DVDx looks like just the ticket. I tried Ripcord and a few other freebees that looked like crap, but DVDx worked great...
