G-Stress Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Anybody know what type of wireless card this model of HP has? It's an HP dv6227cl. The other day it worked just fine then the next day I rebooted the machine and all of a sudden the computer won't even detect it. Not device manager, not even booting a live linux distro as it did detect it before. I have removed and re-inserted it, but that didn't help. I thought it was a "mini-pci" but when searching for mini-pci cards they seemed to look a bit thicker than mine. Mini-ExpressCard maybe? I'm hoping the card just went bad so I'm gonna get a new one. I have downloaded the reference manual from HP's website but all it says is "mini wlan module". Quote
SmoothCriminal Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 If it has a warranty RMA it, if not google is your friend: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&saf...amp;btnG=Search Quote
G-Stress Posted October 29, 2007 Author Posted October 29, 2007 Yea I've googled that exact same string. It does have a warranty I was mainly interested in the type of bus the card uses, because when researching mini pci those cards looked a bit wider then mine. Also I really don't want to send it in just for a bad wireless card I would much rather buy a more powerful one and pop it in myself. Quote
MRGRIM Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 When you say windows isn't detecting it, I assume its not showing in device manager? Have you checked that you havn't disabled it with a hardware switch / key stroke (only mention it as I've spent hours flashing firmware on routers and laptops only to find I've been silly) I would try using a linux live CD - maybe the 'Ultimate Boot CD' will be helpful - not sure if you can scan network devices with it, but at least this will tell you if its a Windows issue or if the card is tottally broken. Can't you just call HP and ask? I know there phone support in the UK is quite fast and also the calls are charged at national rate (so its not going to cost a fortune to speak to them - they also do live web chat I belive) Quote
G-Stress Posted October 29, 2007 Author Posted October 29, 2007 Yea calling them is my last resort. Also I mentioned in my first post I had already tried a live cd and all that good stuff with no luck when it did detect it before. I'm positive there is no hardware switch and it's not disabled. I tri-boot on my lap-top and before my version of linux detected it just fine and now it doesn't see it at all neither does a live cd. I'm just wondering what type of wireless card this is. Like I said as far as the HP reference manual it just says mini wlan module, but i'm sure that is not the type of bus/slot it fits in. Quote
