squirle Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 I've been looking for a way to transmit media to my tv. Mostly fansubs and programmes like Hak5. So a standard mediacenter/network would give a lot of problems with codecs and other things like mkv or ogg files. I'm looking for a way to essentially use the tv as a 2nd monitor, but then wireless. I've seen some dvi wireless dongles, but i've no experience with them or know anyone who does. Also i'm currently not running a 24/7 server and no wired network downstairs. So i still have a lot of options, but they all are not really favourable or take more time then they give comfort. Convert all programmes to standard avi or anything a normal mediacenter can play (lot of time and effort Make a wired network to a downstairs pc Make a wireless network to a downstairs pc Buy a new tv with a network acces point Or an option to do a wireless 2nd monitor that i havn't found. So mostly this is a question if someone knows that kind of solution or a complete new option i'm not aware off. The pc with the media hd2900xt with tv out and 2*dvi Windows vista home premium Wired network through a router The tv Scart, composite and tulip connection no console that could function for the programme trevirsty or similar Quote
Sparda Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 These are the sort of things you probably want: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=44469 But they are completely not-secure Quote
squirle Posted June 26, 2007 Author Posted June 26, 2007 It seems they will do the trick with composite--wireless--wireless-scart. Though the wireless without protection is a no-brainer since it is connected to my main pc. But it gives me a name to look for so thanks :) Quote
squirle Posted June 27, 2007 Author Posted June 27, 2007 I did look into that. But the problem with that setup is that i use Cable instead of adsl. Meaning there are several splitters between my pc and the tv A improvised schematic of the situation as it is now. Quote
mubix Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 May I suggest a couple ways: Get an Apple TV and mod it: Costs more but easy Get an original XBOX and mod it: Harder but total cost is about 150 (Used system plus softmod game) Making the XBOX wireless is trivial as well with a Wifi bridge or a powerline networking device either way you get the desired effect. F8Junkie Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 Even if you figure out a way to get the video wireless, don't forget you need the audio too. I did something like this but hard wired everything and used my TV as Monitor 2 on a dual monitor setup. Good luck - let us know how it goes! Quote
squirle Posted July 3, 2007 Author Posted July 3, 2007 That's how i normally do it when i've a little screening with more then two people (not much room for more then two to sit comfortably). I used to run 1one 15 m tulip to tulip video cable and two audio cables downstairs. But that's not really handy and pretty. The apple tv is for widescreen only according to episode 2x10 :) I think my best option is to find a way to secure a wireless apparatus that sparda linked though i havn't been able to find one that has one build-in. rFayjW98ciLoNQLDZmFRKD Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 I've heard good things about the Mvix player (it was reviewed on InDigital). Personally I would go with the modded X-box if money is an object. Quote
unasoto Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 Is your computer near (could you run a coax from PC to) the point where the cable come into the house? then get a splitter and have 2 inputs. If you use an old VCR/DVD to convert from PC to coax then you will have your PC on every TV in the house ;) Most VCR/DVD's have switch for channel 3 or 4 for out put and as nothing good is ever on those channels :) instant movie channel :) plus extra VCR/DVD player :) Quote

squirle Posted August 11, 2007 Author Posted August 11, 2007 Well a little update. i borrowed a wireless transmitter from a friend. Which didn't work out that well. Something interferes a lot, but we had a leakage which meant the wardrobe and other things had to come from the wall. So after that i budded in and did my cablework. So now the only thing is to scrounge some wireless pointer so i can use it from the lazy sofa. Quote
