moonlit
Yeah I agree with the over 25 thing... I couldn't outright say that kids underage won't drink but at least if they do they could do it at home... What the hell's that "If you look over 21, you'll get IDd' thing? they never enforce it! I know 2 friends who've become bouncers and one of them's also been a barman and the stuff you see when you know someone working there (not sure why but you see more when that's the case) just boggles the mind... I can quite belive what you said about that woman and the kids VaKo, and if bouncers were to keep everyone out unless they have ID or are clearly old enough then no-one would ever see that kind of thing... it's partly the pub/club's fault though, they don't enforce the laws because it means more money for them - hell, some of the places I've known, the owners have explicitly instructed the bouncers to let this person in, that person in or whatever when they are /clearly/ underage... VaKo
I have a simple solution, make it the law to ID everyone on entry to a bar after 7pm. First offence, £1000 fine for every bouncer on shift that night and £5000 for each of the bar owners. 2nd offence, its £2000/£10000. 3rd, 1 month jail time for the bar owners. I guarantee no one underage will get into a bar/club after the first conviction. Plus, if your kids caught drunk underage, you and your kid have to attend something like traffic school for bad parents. Fining a min-wage bar worker solves nothing, especially when your boss tells you that checking ID is slowing you down to much, and if you carry on your fired. This is why I no longer do bar work. <btw i've been listening to Denis Leary for the last 2 hours, does it show? lol>
SPARTACVS
Underage drinkers are annoying, usually because you have to step over them while there drowning in a pool of there own vomit outside clubs. No, man. Some of my friends drink heavy, but I'm just saying that I might have a bottle or two of beer when I'm playing Xbox Live or something. Thats cool, responsible drinking at home is pretty damn good in my book, you learn that you can drink beer without causing a scene. You must know people who can't manage that though. moonlit
Yeah I think that's part of the problem... kids (sorry to generalise - most kids) don't know that a beer is ok or that a glass of wine or whatever can be good - to them, it's to get smashed and I think they need to be shown that a drink can be to relax, to socialise, to enjoy... (as I believe I would've responded well to, but overdoing it taught me lessons) I notice you mention about bar staff being told not to ID, it slows them down VaKo - again, it comes down to money and I think your propesed solution would deal with that... what's the point in making a few extra pennies if you're gonna get fined a lot more? If people in general realised that it's possible to sit with friends and a beer or two and not get hammered, we'd all be living in a better place.. And yeah, I definitely do know those kind of people. I think one of the major problems with teenagers and over drinking is their parents being so opposed to it. If parents let their under 18 year old drink a beer or a glass of wine at dinner and not make a scene of it, the kid wouldn't treat drinking as "rebellious", drink 10 times that much and get wasted with their friends when they're underage. W4RP3D
In the UK you have to be 18 to buy alchol, and now there starting to ask for ID if you look younger than 21. But it doesnt stop underage drinking (just get your older mates to get it lol). I do think its reather pathetic that some people think that to have a good time you have to be so drunk you can bearly stand. Me and my mates have a good time one one or two beer just having a laugh mucking about.

cooper
I'm oftentimes the designated driver of the troupe because I really don't like being drunk at all. And when I'm the one that is to drive, I'm not even taking the 2 beers you're supposed to legally get away with. When I don't have to drive I rarely drink more than 6 beers over a night. After that I really start to grow a big dislike of the taste. Regular beer (Pilsener), I might add, also tastes like CRAP! People go on and on about how Budweiser/Heineken/Amstel/NameYourBrand is THE BEST beer around. They don't know shit. When I was younger (15/16 I reckon) I started collecting beerlabels. And obviously you need to DRINK the beer before you can take off the label (it's a dirty job, but someone's got to do it). I had collected over 400 different ones before I got bored with it, and these were only beers from The Netherlands and Belgium. Try drinking a La Chouffe, La Trappe Quadrupel, Agnus Dei, Moeder Overste or Hertog Jan Primator when you get a chance. Seriously tasty beers. moonlit
Regular beer (Pilsener), I might add, also tastes like CRAP! People go on and on about how Budweiser/Heineken/Amstel/NameYourBrand is THE BEST beer around. They don't know shit. Damn right... I mean, if you do genuinely like the taste of a certain beer, great! I don't wanna say that everyone who claims to like chemical lagers is lying, I can just see how some of them say [brand x] is best 'cos it gets you wasted or leary the quickest/best... Me, since I've cooled off after my younger drinking fits, I now prefer the odd glass of a great (my favourite varies by occasion) English ale... Spitfire works almost any time, Greene King's IPA is also generally good and there are some interesting ales by the Badger Brewery down here in the south... now ask me to choose between a free night on Carling and 2 glasses of an ale of choice and I'll choose the ale every time - guarenteed. Newcastle Brown is also nice, but that seems a little more mainstream these days... that's not a problem, more an observation but still, on the most part if you mention an ale or a stout to anyone younger that about 35 (sorry to generalise but it's what I've found) they either quickly change the subject through lack of knowledge or rubbish [brand y] because you can't get it at their drinking venue of choice/it's not a big lager - and let's face it, Murphy's or Guinness or Spitfire or Tanglefoot won't mix well with rehashed pop/rap music, will it? ;) Note: I have nothing against that music, it just doesn't really fit with the occasion if you're drinking that kind of drink... cooper
Guess it comes down to this: If you want to get hammered, you'll drink anything. So don't bother telling people you prefer brand X because after 4 beers you won't be able to tell the difference anyway. If you want to enjoy your beer, try several different ones. And don't stick with just Pilsener. There's SO much more for you to discover: Stout, Weizenbier, white beer (witbier), double, triple, quadrupel, bokbeer (seasonal), Ale, Blond, Brown (bruin/brune), Lambiek, Old Brown (about 2% alcohol, much sweeter), Kriek (there are more names for it. Kriek is lambiek with cherry flavour. Other fruit flavous are be used too), and a host of other beers that are really tough to put in any of these boxes (and I'm sure I'm omitting some boxes too). Note that the above goes for wine aswell. I personally don't like the stuff, but there's more to it than just 'red' and 'white'. Oh, check out episode 5 of From The Shadows for a behind the scenes look at a beer brewery. It's quite interesting. In the second half of the episode they even show you how to brew your own beer. Easy, relatively cheap, and if done right quite tasty and rewarding. Imagine being able to tell your friends "Hey man, try this beer. Made it myself". Unlike computer nerdity, this is one hobby that CAN get you noticed by the other sex. ;)
Neod101
... kids (sorry to generalise - most kids) don't know that a beer is ok or that a glass of wine or whatever can be good Do you mean kids as in children or anyone under 18?
moonlit
kids as I wrote there could either be anyone who is under the drinking age of your country/state or kids as in those too immature to know that you can drink without passing out and choking on vomit... ...they're almost interchagable - there's overlap but there are a lot of people in the latter camp who are old enough to be aware of the consequences... (no offence intended to anyone whatsoever, and I'm certainly not trying to be a killjoy!)
TheZ
When i went to europe ,a few months ago, i had my first full beer just at dinner tho.......it is ok i like the taste somewhat but i can't see why people like to get drunk.i see beer and alcohol as a social drink and basically a drink to relax and to talk with people while drinking it and such. I don't know if you can get it anywhere but in Canada, but this is pretty much the only beer I drink: http://www.keiths.ca/ They have a pale ale and an amber (red) ale that are both good. Sleeman's is also good, but again, you might only be able to get that in Canada too. I don't drink crappy beer like Budweiser and that, I just don't like the taste.
