"Windows could not load. /windowsroot /hal.dll missing re-installing this might solve the problem" well something like that.. what do i do? i load my xp cd and i ran chkdsk /r but didnt find anythink wrong.. i ran "Fixboot" also... but nothing changed.. what do i type on the recovery command line to reinstall that .dll file? coz i'm really a noob at this... :( -edited ok this is what i got : Windows could not start because the following file is missong or corrupt: <Windows root>system32hal.dll. Try running memtestx86 (which is included on the Ubuntu live CD :D). If the first couple of tests pass then you'll most likely have to do a repairer install of windows to fix it. You could try some thing like SpinRite, but Time vs Payoff is generally more in the favor of repairer install (repair install > 1 hour with 99% guarantee of success, but you lose some things like 'personal settings' : SpinRite < 8 hours with no guarantee of success but if it does work, you keep all your 'person settings'). xaero Posted May 26, 2007 Author Share Posted May 26, 2007 Have you tried installing UBUNTU!!!!!? xD well.. actually.. tahts what i tried to do before my laptop screwed up.. first i had mandriva free spring edition on my laptop alongside windows... but i didnt like mandriva so i installed ubuntu studio over it... and thats when my laptop started to screw up.. at first installing was ok.. but when i restarted my pc, i got that missing file error msg.. :( well.. thanks for your help anyway... i bite te bullet and now i;m reformatting my whole laptop... there isnt much important stuff besides porno and AutoCAD in there so i'll just have to install them back again.. oh and along with Ubuntu studio too.. :D Thanks for that memory recover tool thingie.. oh and sometimes when i reformat my pc and install windows i sometimes get messages like certain dll files cant get coppied from the disc.. why is that? i get them while "Setup is Copying System Files" or something like that.. ... You are saying that a peice of Microsoft software is guarenteed to do something and what if the data on the hard disk is so corrupted that the installer can't remove or fix it.
