school internet wireless lan

i'm getting a new laptop for school use and i am going to connect to school's wireless lan. .  i remmember watching one of hak. 5's episode with harrison saying that using schools internet is not really safe so it isn't reccomended to use it. .  how do i encrypt my connection? i step by step guide would be nice coz i'm not good at this kind of stuff. .

Hi,

I recommend you to set up a VPN, using openVPN (www.openvpn.net). You'll find tons of how-to and doc on the official website. If your school uses a proxy, don't forget to set up your VPN in TCP on port 443 to bypass it and to specify your proxy in the config file.

They might have a similar effect when using them for tunnelling between two machines, but their capabilities and what they are designed to do is completely different.

a VPN is a BITCH to get working...

bsodtv.org has a video tutorial on how to tunnel over SSH VPN would work better if you ever did get it working...

ok i installed that open vpn thingie but i cant get it to work...  :( my VPN just couldnt get connected... how do i configure this thing? its kinda complicated for me :( i need to use a proxy btw..

Can you explain what your doing?

i wanna setup a vpn for my laptop that i'll be getting soon so i tried OpenVPN on my PC.. but i cant get it to work.. how do i set one up? (i use a proxy to connect to the net)

What did you try? We'll need more detail than that.

well i installed openVPN normally.. then i went to start/progamms/openvpn/add a new TAP win32 virtual ethernet adapter and got a bunch of batch files on my screen.. but this is what i got :
