I’ve been a bit liberal with some of the icons/design and I’m sure I’m missing something, but fuck it, I’m not spending more then 3 minutes on a diagram. This is pretty much what my network looks like today.

lol, I need all that equipment for my project, I’ve talked about it before and can’t go into more detail.

The world network is just something I’ve been doing for years. I buy P3 and P4 small form factor PC’s like the Compaq EVO and Compaq iPAQ PC from eBay and auctions for about £4 to £30 a unit and the stick a user friendly distro (Debian/Ubuntu) on them.

I give them to people I have known for a few years, met and trust to a point, under the understanding that I will fix and maintain them remotely and all I want is for them to be online 24/7 and use them remotely. I have a little over 120 at the moment and I add between 20 to 40 new computers a year (mainly friends of friends). I think I’ve lost abut 32 in the last 5 years which I don’t think is too bad.

Lately I’ve been sending out dual P3 1U servers (I bought a pallet of them for £10 a unit) I’ve been setting them up as web servers or as a PBX (Fedora/CentOS) and giving them to a select group of people.

WOW Metatron sounds like an awesome project I would love to hear more about it. And it also makes my network look small.

I have just updaed my Dia file to show you guys how my network will look in the new place we are building.

The VM server will contain all of my internal servers such as ADC, File Server, Asterix PABX, Mail Server, AV Gateway. I am looking at a quad core box for this using NFS/Samba to mount all of the storage. The MythTV Box will be linking to its storage via a VLAN and connecting via ATA over Ethernet,
