nullspace
I am currently shoe horning my linux firewall and an Active directory to play nice. I want my firewall to handle ip routing and be the secondary DNS while using the w2k3 active directory as the primary DNS and obviously the domain controller. I set this up because I wanted to test some ideas at home when they came to me and not be afraid to mess things up a little. So I got curious on how others had their home network setup besides the regular router and clients. Complete question: What is your network setup at home if it is worth mentioning? 911alertme
or http://hackinacan.sitesled.com/net.jpg Wow! Just Wow! 6 Xbox's and a PS2? Anyway my network is hardly worth mentioning. I have an unmodded D-Link Dl-624 wireless router that goes to my laptop (wireless) and 2 other PC's on the LAN.

tanda333
very impressive. i have a cogeco cable box running into a linsys wrt54g. the wrt54g branches out into a pc, and a 5 port hub, (the fifth port doesnt work)the pc is my fathers, and i also use it as it is about 3 time more powerful than my OC'ed pIII which runs off the hub. also my 360 runs off the hub. thats it. 2 pcs, a xbox 360, 1 5port hub, and a router. at my mom's house, we have an ibook, a laptop, and an mdg box running straight off a wrt54g not very impressive, but theirs 2 networks in 2 locations, so, like the russians, quantity has a quality all of its own. but your network is amazing famicoman i may upgrade it later by adding a NAS box, and occasionally my sis runs her laptop off the wifi when she comes over. btw, nice choice in the wrt54g famicoman, its quite popular. out of three different 'cheap-ish' wireless routers, i found the wrt54g to be the best. Shaun
r8 old laptop You can't spell right as r8! That spells rate if anything. Sure, if you want to spell with a heavy Yorkshire accent I suppose it could work, but none of the other words are spelt that way.

Shaun
I don't think so, the first switch I ever had was was a 5 port one, and that isn't a multiple of 8 obviously. Most switches with 8 or more ports do seem to be multiples of 8 though.

Grut
Currently: Interwebs | Absolutely useless "network anywhere" 802.11b router. In the coming weeks I'm hoping to upgrade a little. Plans are for a SmoothWall box between the net and everything else. I'm also going to add a test box for trying out new OS's and an Arch based file/web server. Once finances allow I'd like to get a better router, one with Gb lan and WPA, and a larger antenna. natural_orange
Last summer I worked for my cities school district doing computer shit.Ā There network is pretty crazy. They have like around 25 schools (elementary + middle school + high school) each has its own LAN which is connected to the school systems wan which goes through a proxy server. all of the school have an MDF and 2 or 3 IDFs.Ā All connected with fiber.Ā Each school has 100+ computers and at least 3 servers. DHCP runs in the switches which are all Cisco. Its kinda hard to explain but it was incredibly organized to the point were you know the ip of a computer or printer just by knowing what room its in and where it is in the room. I spent a lot of time feeling like a telephone operator sitting in the IDF's trying to get all the computers plugged into the network.
