giantjoebot
I got my hands on a legal copy of Server 2003, and I' going to be using it for my home media server soon. I was wondering if anyone knew of a good free AV that will work on server 2003. I have looked at a few, including AVG and Avast, but they all the free versions say that they are not for server OS's. giantjoebot
Actually the AOL one is a good one according to Gizmo's tech support news letter. Bitdefender and Clamwin are scanners only.
SomeoneE1se
Thats' Just because it's rebranded Kasperky and it's a server if thats all you're using it for then just set clamwin to scan every few days or what ever.
wh1t3 and n3rdy
AOL!!!! Counting to 10.................trying to supress rage......................... Seriously though, I don't trust a thing that comes out of that joint.
giantjoebot
I emailed Ian Gizmo Richards, of Tech Support Alert, and this is what he said: "Well first do you need AV on a media server? I don't run any on my Media Center PC even though it sits on my LAN. What I do is periodically scan the MC PC drives from other workstations by mapping the MC drives as network drives. Second you might look at the Open Source ClamWin. It may run on server." And I also have a deep hate for AOL, but they have done a couple of things right. Like their Xdrive free remote storage, 5GB. I use it and it works OK, but could be better. I'm sure that Google's Gdrive will be way better, and I can't wait for that to come out.
