Hello

Can someone please provide details how to perform a factory reset of the Pineapple?

I have tried oushing down the button for 7 seconds and can see the lights reflashing however this still does not change the config of the unit.

I would like to do a fresh restart trying to get this up and running.

Thankyou

Which links to a 404 - https://downloads.hak5.org/pineapp

Thanks for pointing this out, I've fixed the typo in the URL for that page.

Discord- Link broken

Could you say where you found a broken invite link? The one on the https://community.hak5.org page works for me. For what it's worth, you can join with https://hak5.org/discord.

The one in the IRC says expired and thanks.

You have to follow this EXACTLY or it wont work. I did this for HOURS before i got it exactly

1) Shutdown from the software, this must be a full shutdown and not a usb plug pull.

2) Disconnect power, wait a few

3)WHILE holding the power down, plug it back in

4) The red light will blink, make sure it is 3 FULL blinks and a second after. If you do it right and release it will turn solid red

5_ Navigate to 172.16.42.42:80 after you set the device's static to the following

  • ip: 172:16:42:42
  • snm: 255:255:255:0
  • gateway BLANK
  • DNS: 8.8.8.8
  • Alt DNS: 8.8.4.4

5)Then and only then should you IMMEDIATELY be brought to a different screen where you can upload your .bin.

It seems like this would be easy, and the directions do explain what to do, but if you deviate with the shutdown or the putton press, etc the whole thing wont work.
You are right though, this tool is depressing. When it works, its fine but I've had nothing but issues. The Forums are just mad people and I am honestly getting fed up. My Raspberry Pi seems more stable. Lets hope they do a big update for the GUI.

The diagnostics tool is cool but I dont see anywhere or anyone to send the info to for review.

That is why the guide is written in steps.

This isn't true, though. You can absolutely pull the power and hold the reset button while plugging it back in. No need to wait for anything.

Which is exactly what the guide says.

  • 1 year later...

Key here, is to be able to connect to the Pineapple. I had setup the Pineapple a year ago, put it on the shelf and forgot about it. Have some spare time on my hands, and wanted to see what this thing could do, but I had forgot what the password for the unit was.

I had originally setup the unit via WIFI. But now, I found myself forced to connect to it via the LAN, to do the factory reset. But I couldn't connect to it using a USB C - USB A cable. Neither my workstation or laptop would see it. Luckily, I found a USB C - USB C cable, and voila. Up came a USB 2.0 to Fast Ethernet adapter.

Cake wake after that.
