Mr Andrewson
Okay, right now i have a la fonera router plugged into my computers Ethernet, and a usb speedtouch modem plugged into, usb :o The only problem i have is, well put it this way: [Modem]<no problem>[PC]<problem>[LaFonera] The connection. I am trying to share my usb conenction with my ethernet so the la fonera router can send internet to a laptop/psp/pda and such. But i made a thread here: http://boards.fon.com/viewtopic.php?t=2747 Which is about the same thing but the person helping me can probably explain better, so read that and then see if you can help me :) It's something about getting the dynamic ip of my modem, but i don't have two computers, just read that, you will probably understand, i just need help and thought i would come to you guys :)
Sparda
Why don't you just tell the router your computer is the default gateway, and then enable internet connection sharing?
Mr Andrewson
How? I am quite a n00b at networking :?
Sparda
set the default gateway ip in the router config as your computers LAN IP. Then just enable internet connection sharing, I forget how to do that since I haven't done it in ages.
Mr Andrewson
My lan ip, is that the ip i get when i click properties on my fonera conenction ip/tcp?
Sparda
it would be the ip address that is assigned to the network adapter, as opposed to the (useless) USB device. btw, you should set it to be a permanent static address. You can use any IP address you want, it will still work.
Mr Andrewson
So i need the ip of my usb modem? (i know it's useless, if this can't work i might aswell got the linksys and adaptor)
Sparda
no, your computers LAN IP address, the USB 'modems' address is your computers WAN IP address.
Mr Andrewson
So the lan ip address is the one i get in Lan or Highspeed internet? Do you have msn? it would be great if you could remote assistance me?
moonlit
Get the ADSL router. Much, much, much, much easier. No screwing around, simple setup, it tells you how to do everything. Plus it'll work in Linux like you asked before.
