wheatymeats
Hello! Feels great to be here. I'm taking the deep dive into Penetration Testing and bought a WiFi Pineapple after hearing great things about it. I have some very beginner questions to clarify how to get this thing set up. When trying to install the firmware - not only does my WiFi Pineapple not find my 5G network (it does see the alternative 2G network) - when I put my network password in it fails to connect every time. Also can't manually upload the firmware bin file using the wizard (clicking the upload button after choosing the file does nothing). My main computer is a Macbook Pro 16, and I'd like to use the WiFi Pineapple to setup an environment to play around in, learn how to secure my own network, and learn the fundamentals of hacking using a Kali Linux Desktop, Raspberry Pi, Windows Desktop and the Macbook. Anyways, is there a setting on the Macbook Pro - or on my router config that I have to change in order to make it discoverable/connectable for my WiFi Pineapple? Thanks in advance and I'm looking forward to learning and talking with you all. Best, Michael
chrizree
5 GHz not showing is because of the fact that the Mk7 only has 2.4 GHz radios. Not sure how you are connecting to the Pineapple, but I guess that you are using wireless. If using USB-C then you might need to download a driver on your Mac. What OS:es and browsers have you tried when uploading the firmware file? However, there shouldn't be any problems downloading it the "usual" way. But, need some more info about your setup and environment to get the full picture in order to troubleshoot and help. https://docs.hak5.org/hc/en-us/articles/360061629513-USB-Ethernet-Drivers
wheatymeats
Hi chrizree! Thanks so much for the quick reply. I'm currently installing the driver on my Mac and will send an update if it helped or not. Yes I'm connecting the WiFi Pineapple to my Macbook pro via the USB-C cable included. Haven't tried it on any of the other computers yet - since my Macbook is the main brain I figured I would try it first (running Catalina 10.15.7). I plan on running the Cloud Server on a VM using VMware on the Macbook as well running in bridged mode. I'm using the router and modem given to me by the internet provider. Not sure what other specific information to give you - still going through some intro networking courses so I can understand what's going on. chrizree
OK, try it and see what happens. The reason I asked about your environment/network is if you can use some other network and/or client devices to see if it acts the same. Just to rule out any possible problems with certain devices. There are situations when it seems as if the Pineapple is the problem, but after some troubleshooting other things are actually causing the issues.
Glitchit109
Any updates on this wheatymeats? I am reading through threads and so far I haven’t found positive reviews with using a Mac. I have a M1 MacBook Air which I want to use Pineapple but seems it may not be supported.
