Nostalgiahp
For example, if this cable is connected to a random locked iPhone that I don’t know the passcode for, would it be able to retrieve any data?
Aaron Outhier
No, since Apple disables the data connection on the iPhone until the device is unlocked.
Sugary
But what about hacking the iPhone when locked— can the malware be installed by the Omg while locked so that when the iPhone user unlocks it then the malware sends data to you?? Aaron Outhier
The cable wouldn't be able to connect at all until after the the device is unlocked. At that point, Apple would prompt the user whether they trust the "computer" it's connected to. If the cable is connected to only a wall charger, this would raise some eyebrows. Ultimately, the best way to answer these questions is to buy an o.mg cable and an iphone.
Sugary
Thanks Aaron for clarifying. I take it that same would apply to IPad and Mac Laptops.
Aaron Outhier
It applies to an iPad. Not sure about a Mac - it's not locked down as much. Remember to test your Hacks ON YOUR OWN EQUIPMENT!
Gwozd
You can connect an iPhone to a PC and it will charge, but nothing more. To transfer data, you need to unlock your smartphone and click "Trust this PC". Only after that you will be able to transfer data. It can be Windows Explorer, iTunes or other third-party software. Do not forget to disable third-party software on the PC before disconnecting the cable from the phone. So that there are no such problems as I have, that the iPhone does not see contacts and so on.
