Sparda Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 You don't seem to understand how the Internet works. I would explain but it's loads of writing. Quote
Cosmo Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 You have to use this uber leet program called telnet. You use telnet to connect to the port that is open, and steal all their porn. Quote
Cosmo Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 You have to hit a certain combination of keys on your keyboard. Telnet is so secret of a program, that Microsoft wanted to hide it, but keep it available for future use. I have to hit ctrl + backspace + ~ + K + shift and Q together to launch telnet. You should be able to find the launch sequence by hitting random sequences of keys on your keyboard. Once in Telnet, there is a very detailed walk through on hacking with telnet, but you have to find telnet first. Quote
SomeoneE1se Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 You have to use this uber leet program called telnet. You use telnet to connect to the port that is open, and steal all their porn. At an ethical point of view, How would I use telnet. Or where can I findout how to use it for connecting through ports? telnet 127.0.0.1 23 program name then IP then port number. there has to be a listening program on the other side of the port. Quote
Darren Kitchen Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 quit messing with him, he seems to have good intentions. personally i blame the media for this poor explination of how the internet works. use a port scanner such as nmap to identify open ports on your target from there you need to research what services are running on those ports if you can identify the version of the service running on the open port you will have an easier time finding an exploit from there it all depends on your objectives. if you have more specific questions this is a good place to ask may i also recommend some wikipedia reading on keywords such as internet port, telnet, port scanner, and any following links within those articles. cheers Quote
psychoaliendog Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 The Security Now podcast does a good job of explaining the internet. Heres some you may be interested in. http://www.twit.tv/sn43 http://www.twit.tv/sn26 http://www.twit.tv/sn25 Quote
nullspace Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 I would suggest reading a book on TCP/IP. You need to learn the basics before trying anything else. Quote
VaKo Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 Wikipedia is a good place to start, I would suggest going to the article on TCP/IP and reading it, and then following pretty much every link on the page. At your level (and most peoples, including mine) wikipedia will have all the information you need just to get a good grounding on the subject. The details and expensive books will follow. You will need to read up on lots of things, but don't be worried, if you stick at it you will learn loads. I've been learning about computers for 2 decades now and there is still so much I don't know. Learn to use google as a 2nd brain, as you going to need to google every word you don't understand. The best way to learn however, is to just play around. You need a safe environment where you can screw up and break things (the number 1 learning tool in the IT world) repeatedly, without causing a problem. Beg/Borrow/Steal a few old Pentium 3 systems & some networking gear, then play with them. And yes, your going to have to reinstall them on a daily basis for a bit but this is normal. As for ethics, its really simple. If you wouldn't do something to someone standing in front of you, then its most likely a Bad Thing to do. Just don't be a dick, just like real life. Quote
a5an0 Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 I am a beginner ethical hacker and I want to find how you would be able to go through a port after you use a port scanner and find the port of an ip address. :?: After you identify an open port, you need to identify what service is runnign on that port, whether it is httpd, ftpd, fingerd, sshd, etc. Listen to VaKo, he's completely right. Google and Wikipedia are your two best friends. Set up a few old PCs with windows and a handful of Lnux disks, and just play around. Quote
a5an0 Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 ABSOLUTELY! Fundamentally, the whole point of hacking is to discover an to learn. The idea is that you learn everything that you can, you never stop exploring. Ethical hacking is in itself an amazing way to grow intellectually and keep your brain on its toes. Keep it up! Quote
a5an0 Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 you got it! The Collusion Syndicate used to say "Learn all that is learnable" Quote
