Deveant
boot up partition manager Partition Magic 8.Have u tried XP's NTFS Quick?
temperseed
Yep, Partition Magic is the way to go... I will olso recommend you get your hands on a boot cd either "Roadstarter" or "Hiren's" either of those... But know this Roadstarter is 2x as big as hirens but it includes hirens boot cd 8) aswell as DSL and a WinPXE. So if u want to really fix your problem (ur HDD) i sugjest you download "roadstarter bootcd" wich u can easily find in google.

VaKo
I suppose low level formats might be a bit old skool. It used to fix some errors but this was back in the day of £200 4gb SCSI discs.
cooper
It's still a necessity when the disk has really been zeroed out. Once some partitions have been laid out and the initial format has happened you can quickformat to your heart's content though.
