G-Stress
Hey guys just got me a new lap-top (HP dv6227cl) and it has no pcmcia... it does have ExpressCard which is new to me. Just curious if anyone knew of a wireless ExpressCard that works in linux particularly with the aircrack suite?
stingwray
You'll be lucky to find anything that will fit in the express slots at the moment, its like trying to find something which fits in a pci-e slot which is not a graphics card. There are some USB ones about which work how you want so if you need it quick, look for them, but otherwise you'll have to wait.
metatron
Yeah USB will probably be the way to go, Black Box do a "Pure Networking 802.11g Wireless Mini USB Adapter" that will work in Linux. You can get wireless ExpressCards that are Linux compatible but there not cheap ($160 + dollars), you can pick up a USB device for $40. Bad analogy. There's quite a few things these days that are made for PCIe. IO cards like SATA and SCSI cards. I know for a fact that Adaptec has several in its product portfolio. Next up there's network adapters. Intel makes a slew. D-Link and HP have them aswell. Or what about TV tuner cards? The VistaView 2020 is PCI-e. Granted, most of this gear is high-end and probably too pricy to be on Joe Blow consumer's radar. But that doesn't change the fact that this stuff is all readily available. For a better analogy, you should've compared it to having a girlfriend. "Another slot you won't be able to fill for the forseeable future". Or am I really getting vicious now?
G-Stress
:( man... that means no more fun with my Senao. I do have a d-link g122 that works, but the range isn't anything compared to the Senao card. Oh well i guess i'll just have to wait
G-Stress
Just thought I would say the Belkin N1 Wireless ExpressCard ver. 1000 (like the only one available at this time) at least from what I've seen. It does have an atheros chipset and it does recognize in linux via lspci, but haven't gottin it working yet in linux. At least it's recognized with an atheros chip so it should do well for wireless auditing :D
