New to mixing music

Well, I'm getting into mixing my own music on my computer and I was wondering if anyone had any clue where I could find some free instrument samples on the net at, having some trouble finding some good ones, found some in a few places, but they were all strung together into one file and it's going to be really annoying having to clip them all apart and save them as different files. I've been using Audacity for mixing, if anyone has any better suggestions for freeware or open source mixing programs, then post them here too. (I've already used google lol.)

Your best bet for free instrument samples will be Pirate Bay or isoHunt, as for open source mixing programs jokosher is OK but I would recommend you get a “copy†of something like SONAR, Cubase, Pro Tools or ACID Pro, as freeware and open source software in this area is not even remotely as good.
