911alertme Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 Recently my hard drive crashed. After trying various things to make it work I finally took it in. They scanned it and it had 56 bad sectors. They also said that it was probably dust in the heads or something. Is there anything I can do to clean it or make it functional again? It is a 250gb Seagate 7200.8. Quote
Deveant Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 download a copy of seatools and scan it, once its finished it will prompt for it to fix all errors it finds, this can take upto a day or so, most its taken for me is 19h's for repearing 60 sectors anyway. Quote
CompTech Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 What did you try? Where did you take it? They said it was dust on the heads? I would recommend putting it in a zipped lock bag, MAKE SURE IT'S AIR TIGHT, then stick it in the freezer overnight and try to get the data off of it again. I have seen it work before but only for a very short period of time. Quote
