dr_xemacs
Hello! I’m totally new here. I am interrested in sniffing datagram packets with Wireshark, especially SSID announcement broadcast packets from my wifi router. So I installed Wireshark, disconnected my wifi network connection and tried to sniff just anything - but it was completely silent. I don’t know anything about this matter, so please enlighten me! I just know that every access point broadcasts its ”Hello, i’m here. Connect to me if you want” packet - but i don’t know how to capture them. So perhaps thought i - that i need to be listening in promiskuous mode to be able to sniff theae packets. Obviously the machine gets the knowledge about any wifi network around since a list of available networks appear in the networks menu. So my question is - can i sniff these packets with my radio built in my old mac, and how? Even a simple smartphone can do that trick - so i figured i could as well. Happy for helpful answers from people who know the matter. Best greetings, dr_xemacs
