Hi,

I have been set a little project to understand the up and coming  issue of car theft and scanning here in the UK.

I have been given the following product (see link below)but would like to understand or appreciate any information avaialble to be able to understand. It may also work the same was as a drone although I do know that they advertise themselves as an AP so perhaps not although they do work at 2.4Ghz

Apprecait any advice or links to information concering this.

Not really sure what you are after, what has car theft, drones, APs and an SDR got in common? Is this school homework?

The HackRF is just a device that can receive and transmit RF signals at a wide range of frequencies. Read the product description on the Amazon page for more information or google HackRF to get a whole load of info.

Hi,

Yes I have, it is just a project I have been given my MD to understand and educate people on the potential issues.

People talk about Kayak as well . My cousin got  drone for christams and it is obvious it advertises as an AP I am no hacker but would like to understand . I watched the video on youtube for for HackRF but that picked up a Hifi signal etc.

Hi Paul, i remember seeing something about car theft in United Kingdom whereby a transceiver  is used to relay signal from car fob to unlock the car then the engine is started then drive off is this perhaps what you trying to achieve

Hi,

I am trying to understand the risk and my MD often does column with national papers on risks we have a big issue with drones so it would be good to understand.

Hence my questions ....appreciate any information possible . Apart from going to the people who steal the cars its quite hard to find out !!

Can you restate your question as it still isn't clear. What do drones have to do with car thefts, exactly what was it you were asked to find out about.

Hi,

I would like to understand initally about how this new threat how thieves can pretend to be the key holder on new cars.

It just happens a family member got a drone and from the setup steps it clerly operates as a wireless AP so was windering if anyine can shed some light on this as well.,

Bit of an eductioan and. I have a USB wireless adaoter than I intend to sniff wirelss AP just to understand and educate

Hope that makes it a little clearer , sorry of my initial questions were a ittle vague !

You said your MD had set you this project, now it is because of a family member, all very odd.

All the things you mention use some type of RF, they may use Wifi, they may use bespoke. Give us exact examples of what you are looking at and what you want help with.

HI,

Thanks for the quick response. No I said, my MD asked me to find out about the cars and just happens a family memebr was unpacking a drone and thought why not ask a question same time.

So I have read about Kayak along with the HackRF but this connects to the CAN bus / modem . There is alot of press these days about people going up to these new cars and spoofing the key and getting in. Seen videos on RFID see below but this is and seems great but slightly different the Proxmark kit.

People I have spoken to talk about using twitter (I dont use and dont want to !!!) and look for @CarLoopio , but it seems hard to find out more about the non CN bus option. I would like more info on the CAN bus option, I even joing a KIK anonymous group and someone offered to sell me , yes sell me a copy of KAYAK . Just be good to find out more information

P.S. The drone deal I would like to understand more and I know it is more a WiFi protocol as well.

RFID info.

You can purchase kit such as the Boscloner - you can see a video of it in action here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlncX_EtslA

Appreciate any help pointers I have googled a few hours over this in the back ground...........
