gop12
Hi, I recieved my Pineapple Nano a few weeks ago. It started out working okay, I was able to start the PineAP and perform recon scans etc. Sometimes the scan would never finish, and sometimes the PineAP would never enable,, but a reboot would usually fix this. Now the PineAP is permanently disabled, I have performed a factory reset, firmware recovery and countless reboots., it still won't start. I see in the system log it states the PineAP has booted? Has anyone experienced this issue? I would have thought a firmware recovery would've solved the issue, possibly a hardware fault? gop12
I managed to get it working by redoing the firmware recovery to 2.0.2 and using the PineAP before updating to the latest firmware. wlan0-1 is now up and running. site_survey no longer produces an error. Happy days so far.

Foxtrot
How are you enabling PineAP?
DiabeticGuineaPig
Can't find a real answer on the forums to it and see tons of other people having the same problem. I have a Tetra, running V2.4.2 and whenever I go to switch Pine AP daemon to enabled, it will show the pineapple icon for a moment and then go back to disabled. If I go to Recon I am warned that Pine AP must be enabled before I can scan, I click the prompt to enable it but it disappears and when I click scan it appears again telling me Pine AP hasn't activated. I am able to SSH to my tetra from my Macbook, phone, or Windows PC and manually perform a scan but whenever I go to use the web interface it NEVER enables Pine AP. gop12
@DiabeticGuineaPig Yes, yes and yes! You're experiencing the exact same issue that I experienced. Its sounds like a very common issue that has been around for years. Even when the PineAP did work for me it was buggy and unreliable, I couldn't use it for longer than 10 minutes without having issues, I would never use it in the wild. I've given up on it and have moved onto a Raspberry Pi instead. I would recommend asking for a refund if you've recently purchased it.

At this point I've owned this thing for over a year, it was a expensive paper weight then and I just picked it up again this week but it seems just as unreliable. I also just got a new Alpha AWUS36ACH adapter and have been working with that on Kali, thing is... the range is garbage. The pineapple has great range when using Airodump-ng I'll give it that, but it sure would be nice to have some real functionality to it that I paid for, such as the web interface working. It would be nice to have an employee of Hak5 chime in on why this issue keeps happening with so many people across so many versions that supposedly fixed this issue. @Darren Kitchen
Foxtrot
Hi guys, I'm sorry that you've both been experiencing some issues, unfortunately this issue has proved hard to reproduce on my end. If you guys could generate a debug log via the Help module in the Web Interface and attach it here, it would be very helpful :).

bakedmuffinman
got debug working. I believe im having the same issue. PineAP is not associating with client. PineineAP Daemon: shows as enabled on auto start. CPU is nearly always showing 100% from the dashboard. but not from Status module downloaded from wifipineapple.com after I upgraded FW from 2.0.2 to 2.4.2 Literally right before I upgraded I had clients auto associating to the pineapple. debug(1).log

(You have Recon results in your debug log.) I'm unsure what you mean by "PineAP is not association with client."
biob
I’ve just done the firmware recovery. Recon started PineAP and did a scan. Went to look at another tab to get path to sd card. Went back to recon, changed scan storage path to SD. Tried another 30sec scan. Message about starting PineAP, hit scan... same issue again. biob
Surely this is an issue with the new firmware as other people are having the same issue and posting elsewhere in the forum 😔
biob
So I’ve ssh’d into the nano. Uses ‘pineap /tmp/pineap.conf run_scan 15 0’ . I get something along the line of PineAP needs to be started. Anyone know how to resolve this please?
bakedmuffinman
what I mean is that previously before the 2.4.2 patch I was on 2.0.2. I would plug my Nano into power. it would boot up and start PineAP automatically with allow associations. Phones, laptops, computers would automatically start connecting under which ever SSID they were searching for. since the 2.4.2 nothing automatically connects. ive only been able to manually connect a device to the set PineAP SSID. and even then it acts buggy. like it will connect then disconnect. I have to reconnect 3x before stably connecting. @Foxtrot
smokenmirrors
I'm having a very similar issue. I received the nano as a gift recently and it was great the first night playing with the different modules. i updated to the latest firmware, and now it wont start pineap like these posts in the GUI. I can ssh into the nano from my android phone, but i dont know enough to use pineap or anything from there. ivejust purchased a usb-ethernet adapter so that i can try to do the recovery and im aiming to update to 2.0.2 as someone here mentioned their stuff worked reliably on that. smokenmirrors
i learned to check sha256 by using the portable app RapidCRCUnicodePortable i Torrented Kali Linux, download the nano_factory.bin, the SHA256 check fine. i used Rufus to put linux image on a SD card to boot from* Quote *rufus wasnt easy, i got this error: Downloading https://rufus.ie/files/syslinux-6.04/ldlinux.sys Unable to send request: This system's SSL library is too old to be able to access this website. Could not download the file - cancelling" after a bunch of research i find that rufus trying to use Internet Explorers settings forwhatever reason and ive never used IE. I open IE, go through its initial setup stuff and then goto Internet Options, Advanced, security, and enable every TLS. Now rufus works and the image is on the SD card. Now that im booted into kali linux ive figured out that my USB-Ethernet adapter, purchased today, doesn't work at all. Not even on my windows box, so onto trying this from my phone. Note, all steps before were in Vain if i can do this via android
smokenmirrors
annnnnd i cant seem to get the USB to tether while the pineapple is in recovery mode. I've ordered the ethernet klit from hak5 and the additional wifi card for it as i read itll prevent client mode from possibly interfering with pineap. also, in all of this i moved to a 3.1 amp usb charger and formatted the SD card inside the pineapple. anyone know what im missing? im really new to all this @Foxtrot
gop12
Updated to the latest firmware (2.5.2) and can confirm the issue with PineAP not enabling has been resolved. I have tested it for a day with no issues.
M0kk4
Hello everybody, unfortunately, I have the same problem with the nano. Factory reset and upgrade were done, unfortunately no success. PineAP cannot be started. When the button is pressed, nothing happens. Maybe it depends on the result scans location. I changed the location to the sd card.
