Client and SSID Filtering

So ever since the new update I have an issue with filtering. The SSID filtering has no effect. My tetra only seems to respond well to client (MAC) filtering. This kind of sucks because it means I need the MAC address of every person that I want to connect to my open network. I would like my house guests to be able to hop right into the network without having to give their MAC address. The Tetra works properly when I add or remove/ allow and deny clients (MAC) but if I clear the client list and only use the SSID filter, nothing works in any combination. Is there a particular rule in filtering that I am missing?  like is it required to use both client and SSID filtering? Is there another way to have an open network without acquiring device info beforehand? I want people to just join in which would work if I could just use SSID filter.

Safari Version 11.1.2 (13605.3.8) Also I am aware that it is advised to use Chrome or Firefox and using Safari has worked perfectly right out of the box so I've disregarded that detail.

MacOS High Sierra Version 10.13.6 (17G65)

Pineapple Tetra Firmware Upgrade (Current version: 2.2.0)
