What OS? What program? 

 

This is VITAL information for a quick fix. For a long term fix, get something like a data recovery tool of some sort such as recuva if it's windows based, or something like Trinity Rescue disk or some such.

Download 7zip. It's free and can open RAR files. If it shows as corrupt, you can try repairing, but don't expect it to work. Best is to have backups to restore from, but we all know that no one really backs their stuff up at home.

+1 for 7zip.

Also, this. Always keep a back up on your PC/external hard drive/etc, and then have a few large USB sticks or another external drive and back them up again.

You never know when the backup will become corrupt.
