casanova
I am looking for a router with wireless capabilities and the ability to connect remotely to a designated PC in a network. Does any have a model that they can recommend?
Sparda
Linksys WRT54G Very popular due to it's high hack-ability level.
c0d3_z3r0
Any wireless router will work, just make sure you secure your network. Look on the Hak.5 Episode 1x03 and you'll have some tips on how to do that. I would recommend Linksis, Very good router and it's easy to secure it too. How would I go about setting that up? I'm guessing my DD-WRT box won't do it, so is it a case of monowall and IP tables?
Sparda
OpenVPN server + OpenVPN client + 2048bit key, configure the default gateway of the router as the VPN server.
metatron
You can modify this a bit to suit your needs. VaKo
Ok, call me a n00b on this one but its been a long weird day at work: I run openVPN on a computer on my local network. Then I set the default gateway on my router to what IP? The IP of the local machine running the VPN server? That would make no sense. In terms of cabling, 1 box running openVPN, a pool of desktops, a WRT54g and IP addresses, could you give me a 30 second quick overview? Is it a case of just routing all the traffic threw the VPN server before it gets to the router? Or can I do something cool with my routers built in VPN server (which killed my entire offices internet connection)? edit: thanks Metatron, should work like a charm
