LAN Turtle vs. Packet Squirrel

Recommended Posts

I would assume that a 3G sim-free board has a higher production cost than a phone which might have some subsidized charges on a subscription service fee. At least most of the 3G shields I have seen for Arduino or Pis have a similar price point.

I think if you make some hardware tinkering, this could maybe do. https://www.amazon.co.uk/ZTE-86694801-MF823-4G-Dongle/dp/B00MEJJSGW?th=1

And to think they crammed all that inside a lan turtle footprint.. Pretty amazing. I think 250 is fair.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the LanTurtle 3G GSM based, verizon is CDMA. I do not think you can use them as a carrier, Tmobile has prepaid though and they're GSM.

Good catch, thanks!

I'm sure hak5 is blushing being compared to Apple and all their years of experience and immense resources.

This amazing image was the only one I was able to find to look on the inside of the lan turtle 3g. Is it just me but it does kinda resemble the one on Ali, just a different colored PCB. Maybe the stuck the chip on a custom PCB or something. It would be great if someone could get a picture of the inside of the lan turtle 3g.

At the end of the day, it is what it is. The good news is now that you know what parts you need you can make your own for less!

Lan Turtle - 45$, Lantap - 7$, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wi9W0rrye2A

Packet Squirrel - 60$, Orange Pi - 17$, https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Orange-Pi-R1-H2-256MB-Quad-Core-Cortex-A7-Open-source-development-board-beyond-Raspberry-Pi/1553371_32827494728.html

I can only speak to the MalDuino as  I have that product. It isn't the same as rubber ducky. No twin duck firmware possible. And in each other case, compromises are made. To each their own. Good luck on your journey.

I'm extremely grateful for the priceless community hak5 has graciously provided us.

I don't really think paying 3x the price to have slow storage available is worth it, and I think many people agree, why would he otherwise get over 30000£ pounds in funding.

I am really grateful for the community both hak5 and the free market to great almost equally good products at the same price, yes there are compromises but they are really cheap compared to hak5. I hope that we would in the future would see a mod to retrofit a sd card slot and 3g module on the lan turtle. Should be possible because of no other spec upgrades.
