lan turtle on pogoplug

I recently bought a pogoplug P22 and they have locked down ssh. The instructions to enable ssh does not work and looking at their website code it appears they have disabled the option. The only port open now is 80. Their web interface is grossly unsecure and I want to be able to ssh into it from unknown security locations (hotel wifi). Would this device work with allowing me to establish a reverse ssh connection? If so would I need to keep it attached to work or would it provide a one time fix for this issue. I have read about using a serial cable to connect to it for installing linux but I am not looking to do this at this time as I think it would be harder for some family members to use the device also. Thanks for any help in this matter.
