No IP from TETRA

I can't seem to get an IP address from my TETRA. ifconfig said the adapter is up, but no IP address issued. I've attached the log file from boot up. Any help would be appreaciated.

From what interface are you trying to get an IP? The Ethernet port on the Tetra is client / wan port and not serving dhcp. Your laptop / computer .. etc wont get an ip from the tetra if you connect it thru ethernet.

Use the micro usb cable and connect it to the usb port marked eth.

I understand why the rj45 jack wouldn't work now. I shut everything off and rebooted. I tried using my Andriod phone and it works. The pineapple is plugged in with the wall adapter, and the micro usb eth port is pluged into a macbook air running kali 2.0 in vm ware.

eth1 is up. no ip.

Seeing as it shows up on your Mac, and I see it responding in dmesg, I think there is a good chance some configuration got messed up.

Can you try to factory reset your WiFi Pineapple TETRA?

I have had this issue and Darren couldnt even get this to work for me. What I had to do was let the pineapple boot 100% then insert the USB...

That's an issue with the network manager, to be honest. If we know what OS is being used, I recommend setting a static ip (or using the wp6.sh script) of 172.16.42.42 and checking if you get ping replies.

I had the same issue (eth1 up and no ip) in kali linux 2.0 x64. What i did was give a click in network manager and select USB Ethernet then click in connect and that gave me the IP. Finally run the wp6.sh script to have internet accsess in my computer and the wifi pineapple because i only had acces to the wifi pineaple. I guess that kali takes the USB Ethernet as default and ignore the wireless conection.

My situation has went from bad to worse. I reset the pineapple to default twice and now the pineapple shows eth1 as up, no ip (from the pineapple only). When I would plug the eth port into my computer, a box asking if I want to connect the device to mac or linux would pop up. That dosen't happen anymore after the reset (directions found in the bug tracker but now are gone). I've shut everything off and rebooted, no success. The wp6.sh script dose not work for me because my computer won't see the connection at all now.

Would it be more helpful if I put this in the bug tracker? Should I try wp6.sh from the pineapple?

i don't know very well in vmware but sometimes i use kali 2.0 in virtualbox and i had to install an extension pack for use my usb ports with 2.0/3.0 driver because per default it uses in 1.0 driver.


I learn this when i wanted to connect an external wifi card and kali show the interface but when i scan for networks not show nothing.


so be shure you have installed all drivers or extra packs you need and these be configured appropriately.


also you can try to disable any other network interface from the VM and let only the usb of the tetra and press connect in the network manager just to see what happen if this give an ip.


or try in VirtualBox i had no problem using it.

Thanks for that advice! I'll try that when I get home. I have no issue logging into the Tetra through wireless or the rj45 port connected to my router. The web interface and ssh work just fine. I cant seem to do anything with the usb ports. I can't remember why I decided to do this but I read the I can default the Tetra with

Since then the USB ports have been useless. Nothing happens when I connect the eth port to my Macbook Air (2013) running osx, Kali in VM Ware or usb booted with Kali, or my work computer a Surface Pro 2. As well I have a usb hub that gives a visual indication when something is plugged into it. The hub gives no indication that the Tetra is plugged into it.

I always power the Tetra with supplied 2A power adapter. But oddly enough I am able to power the Tetra through the usb ports. I can power the Tetra with any/all combinations. I just cant seem to transfer any data through the usb. I always have to connect wirelessly or through the rj45 port to access it.

I'm a bit of a noob with this. I always seem to take on a project that is slightly beyond me. To eliminate as many things as I could (although I don't think it matters for this issue) I decided to install Kali on a separate partition on my Macbook. I'm working on that now.

I have also tried the firmware recovery directions listed on the website. It won't work because I can't connect through the eth port.

I don't mind a good puzzle. Thats kinda why I'm attracted to this kinda thing. But I'm ready to figure this one out and move on to the next head scratcher.

I've tried firstboot as well. No sucess.

With nothing plugged into any usb, lsusb gives me

Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

If I plug my Alfa AWUS036NEH in, lsusb gives me

Bus 001 Device 003: ID 148f:3070 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT2870/RT3070 Wireless Adapter

Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

If I plug my Mac into either micro usb and try lsusb, nothing changes?

Can someone try this and tell me your results?

  1. Please have nothing plugged into any usb on your Tetra
  2. Open a console and type lsusb
    1. Post results
  3. Plug the eth port into your computer and type lsusb again
    1. Post results

Am I insane? There is a problem here right?

Been busy lately. Haven't looked at this in a month... Now everything works?? Can someone tell me if there was an update in the last month? I need to know why it works now? Am I a noob who cant follow directions? Firmware update? Both?

To be clear, I understand my troubleshooting wasn't going anywhere. Don't know why yet. I just know I can get every port working on it now and I don't think I've done anything different to get it to work?
