How to add and configure third WiFi using a USB Dongle

If I get the Ralink USB WiFI RT5370 for my Nano, do I need to SSH and issue any command for the Nano to recognize and use the Ralink?

What I would like to do if possible, is to access WiFi Pineapple Connector via a WiFi connection as opposed to having my cell phone physically to my Nano.

I'm looking for a nano-compatible 5GHz usb wireless dongle (small form factor). The drivers don't have to be preinstalled, they just need to exist for the nano.

It would also be nice if it had monitor mode capabilities.

Injection support would be a bonus.

There doesn't seem to be anything like this on the Hakshop.

I've been doing some looking on Amazon and this seems promising: http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Wireless-AC-Network-Adapter-USB433WACDB/dp/B00NJF21EQ/

I believe it uses AC600. Some people say it has monitor mode but driver issues.

Look at this guys review of the first one:

"Smallest 300mbps wifi adapter I could fine & works as expected. Running Linux, it was hard to get working, though. The drivers on the StarTech.com site are very out of date for Linux. The device is a RTL8192EU & I had to find the deb package here: https://forum.ubuntu-nl.org/index.php?topic=86081.msg930664#msg930664-- It didn't work with the latest gcc, though, because a warning gets marked as an error. I had to repackage the deb by adding -Wno-error=time-date to the Makefile inside. Anyway, I did all this already I uploaded the new driver here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bza9ecEdICHGSjZMUWtmUHM2em8/view?usp=sharing it will work with DKMS too, so no need to recompile every kernel update." - Phr00t

Couldn't find those drivers precompiled for Openwrt, and I couldn't compile them myself.

Is it possible to turn your wifi dongle you plug in, to do recon or anything else if wlan1mon is in use by another module? Or could I use wlan1mon for both?

i bought it from hak5 i have 2 of them and know they work with the nano, it worked for 15 mins then stopped working, also when i do tethering with a cellphone my cellphone wont register the nano, it doesnt think its plugged into anything

All,

as i am quite new here i would like to know if there is a descriptoin somewhere in the forums on how to add a USB dongle to the available USB port and configure it to create a totally indipendent Nano that can be fully used with its enclosed battery.

as far as i understood 1 wifi is used to broadcast Ap, second one is monitor and the brdidge to internet can be done via USB ethernet port (which i am using with great results) or via a third wifi card to be added to the spare USB port on Nano.

I hope you can help.

Just plug in a USB WiFi adapter into the female end on the NANO, and it creates another Wlan interface that you can connect to an AP through client mode. You can also use USB tethering if your Android phone permits it.

However, don't expect any of the above to actually function. From my experiences with the NANO, client mode makes it an unusable device. USB tethering doesn't work, so it's my only option. I might as well just use this thing as toilet paper.

I'm not sure where your problems stem from, but I can't confirm any of them. I almost exclusively connect to the Nano over Wifi while in client mode via a third adapter. No problems whatsoever, Pine Ap working away happily while I'm surfing, recon scans working etc.

Perhaps a factory reset can help; you might want to try that.

Or perhaps the Wifi dongle is the source of your problems. I am using both a no-name mini plug with a Ralink 5370 and the TP-Link WN722N without any problems. While at home, I prefer to use the TP-Link adapter since the mini plug tends to heat up quite a lot during operation.

Sorry, I know what you mean and didn't intend to turn this into a complaint thread about my NANO's failure to function. I've done all of that, probably factory reset, formatted sd's, and reinstalled everything more times than I've successfully been able to use it.

Anyhow, glad to see you've got it working. If you've got a stubby mini plug then you should in theory be able to go completely mobile, as you've described, which is great!

Hey, no need for apologies. Just trying to troubleshoot your issues, because I know how frustrated I would be if I experienced your problems. I find your reaction quite understandable.

It *is* quite possible that you actually did have the misfortune of getting a faulty unit. I've seen a few posts where people described various issues they had with their Nano and after much back and forth they had it exchanged and, voilà, their problems disappeared.

If you don't have a usb wifi dongle, you should really get one; they cost close to nothing nowadays. Putting the Nano into client mode without a 3rd wifi is a no-no, since it will mess with whatever you're running over your Nano's internal radios.
I suggest grabbing a WN722N; you can find it for around 10 bucks and it won't be wasted money since it a widely supported adaptor that uses the Atheros AR9271 chipset, which works out of the box with most pentest distros. I prefer it over the alfa which many recommend for a simple reason: it's stylish enough to not raise eyebrows when you whip it out in public.

You can also make a hotspot on your mobile device (if your provider allows it, if you can do it with usb you can do it wirelessly) while on your pc or whatever connect wlan2 to your phones hotspot and it will be saved in there. Then shutdown your nano and plug a battery in and run the Hotspot Manager App in google play store and find your ip and connect through a browser as normal (my ip's for my phone have been in the 192.168.43.xx:1471 range, so the 172.16.42.1:1471 wont work) This is great as ill put my nano in the Rear window of my car and see the results from my phone.

I could be wrong.... so please correct me / lead me in the right direction if at all possible

I'm having issues with wlan2 connecting to a hotspot I created. It connects to my hotspot just fine when encryption is disabled. But if I attempt to use WPA or WEP, I will not be able to connect (Click 'Connect' after entering password, screen refreshes with no changes (asks for password again))

so.... after a lot of research, I came to this page...

...I changed my encryption options located in /etc/config/wireless, and I felt progression!! wlan2 would connect, but now it would not receive an IP address.

more research made wonder if maybe it was a driver issue

I know the adapter on wlan2 is fine, as it will connect to anything I demand it to (AWUS036NHA)

the adapter in question (WLU6331), is the one creating the hotspot (on another machine that is not relevant)

so I know what your gonna ask (what drivers etc etc etc)

I pushed the fw/bin files to my fruity box in /var/lib/firmware and..... im stumped

Well, i tried two different adapters (the ones i use with my Raspberry) and with one i have the right description from adapters list
