Rkiver
http://www.engadget.com/2016/01/05/oculus-rift-kickstarter-edition/ Seriously, how awesome is that? Nice move Oculus rift, nice move.
0phoi5
Me and my work colleagues were just on about this. Nice move! It's a shame I didn't put in, however I'm pretty sure I'll be buying one today anyway, if they don't sell out right away! Only 40 minutes to go now! Rkiver
At 600 USD for the release version...honestly I am shocked. I expected around the 400 mark, but almost twice what the devkit.....
cooper
It's a fad for now. Give it a year or two. You'll get superior hardware and better apps for less money (and you'll have time to save up for it).
Rkiver
Oh and it gets better, if you want to buy in Europe it's even more expensive before shipping and taxes, because we all know that 700 Euro is 600 USD.....
Dec100
Yeah, too expensive in Europe. £350 and it would be worth a try, but way too much on a whim at the current price. Isn't there a (vive?) competitor coming out in April too?
cooper
What you can get that gets close is a 10 hunk of cardboard that you can slide your phone into and have it be you head-mounted display. I suspect this will be most people's first encounter with vr headsets.

That's like saying an 8 inch black and white tv is close to watching an Imax movie.

cooper
What I'm saying is this is what people will first use to see if it's worth getting the real thing. Kinda like getting a shitty X before shelling out on the real thing.
barry99705
The problem is they're very different use cases.

Isn't there a (vive?) competitor coming out in April too? You're thinking of Fove, which I think is going to be better than the Oculus. I probably won't get into the VR game for quite some time but Fove makes me want to get into it sooner.
0phoi5
Fove looks pretty amazing to be fair. Would it have as many games backing it up though? It will be interesting to see which VR product comes out on top after a few years.

Yep, Oculus had a chance to get in on the ground floor, but I think they have overpriced, so I'll wait and make a decision when the others come out. sud0nick
Hmm, I guess Vive exists too.
