if you mobo was bought recently it will support drive greater that 8 gb's, that was dread with old mobo's and for the most will support any large hard drive size on your motherboard, how ever you might run into the 137gb partition problem where in windows i think one partition can't be greater that 137gb with a recent patch, but this is the worst that can happen besides that sata 2 drive will fall back to lower sata 1 speeds if connected to sata 1 connection on the motherboard in other words slow transfer for backward compatibilty.

hope this help and btw i have traveled to ballarat it was shit hot and i would not like to live their no offence i prefer sydney even though the extreme heats now

Windows has no problems with paritions bigger than 137GB any more.

Or if you are worried then you can use a decent operating system.

Hint hint.

Yep if you have SATA connecters on the motherboard (not on a PCI card) you can have as much as you want(I think, over 1TB anyway) All modern motherboards support heaps of HDD space. The motherboard that Spartain X is talking about that only support 8GB are old things like PIIs (I think even PIIs support the bigger HDDs though so maybe even older.)
