isn't .acl something to do with Windows user accounts?

Edit: No, it's nothing to do with that apparently but it's an Office auto-correct list... so it's the list Office reads from to correct your mis-spelt words I should imagine.

But then why is it in english and chinese?

It could be the classical problem with the automatic detection of wide characters, by random the message box might have a few characters that could be interpreted as being wide characters and then it converts the rest as well.

You can try this in notepad too by creating a new file and put any characters in a certain pattern. The pattern is 4, 3, 3 and 5, e.g abcd efg hij klmno. Then save the file, close and open it in again.
