Karterius
Does anyone know of a website that builds custom affordable gaming/media rigs?? obviously not alienware.... I'm looking for a gaming/media rig that is super expandable (ie. lots of PCI slots & HD space) Also I am looking for people's thoughts on liquid cooled systems. my only worry is longevity as I normally upgrade to a whole new system about every 3-4 years. burn
Why not build one yourself? If Alienware is too expensive I'm sure Dell is out of your budget, too. I don't know of anyone that pre-builds rigs other than those two.
Karterius
I wouldn't mind building it myself, but if there is a problem down the line I have to shell out of my own pocket. I normally get a 3 year warrenty, and each time it has more then paid for itself. E.G. - Motherboard gone bad, hard drives die, LCD's die out, Power Supply death. I found this site but I don't know how reliable they are, and their choice of chasis could be better, not that the market has an abbundance of cool chasis. http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/
burn
http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/ultra7000.asp?v=d Both the case and the speakers look awesome on this one. I wonder it you can use this case for the 1200 dollar 8000 rig they've got. Not a bad site. You might want to check out some of those websites that review online retailers to see if anyone has had a bad experience with them.
VaKo
My advice for PC buying? Get a Dell via small buisness or a refurb outlet. a: you get a good warrenty, b: you get a fairly cheap decent system, c: you get a damn good warrenty (ie next day, on site repair vs "ship it to china and we'll have a gander"). People knock dell, but if your vaugley inteligent you'll know that it takes a clean OS install to make it sing. Great value, good support and no crap if you buy via Dell Small Buisness. Karterius
Right Dell isn't a bad choice, however they don't have what I need - I need a gaming / media rig: and to be honest their cases suck... I understand they can't look outrageous because they have to sell to corporate/educational use, but do they have to make such bland boxes that are hard and tight to upgrade. ie. have to pull out other parts to pull out one hard drive? burn
I highly recommend Dells. We have over 100 Dell workstations here and RARELY have any problems with them. We've had some out there since 2000 without even the least bit of problems. They cases are designed so that you don't need any tools to remove any of the parts and as Vako said, their warranty is great. Who cares what the cases look like. :) The XPS cases don't look that bad. http://www.dell.com/content/products/produ...n=design#tabtop Although the cases at that site you posted do look pretty sweet. VaKo
TBH the Gamer Ultra 7000 looks pants, kinda like a product design student phoned it in after a weekend on LSD... Whatever you get, do not get suckered into buying a fancy "gamer" system, its the parts inside not the marketing that counts. Read reviews, educate yourself on the technicality's and make a choice based on what it can do, rather than what the adverts tell you. In my experience, custom made PC's from small shops can be a mixed bag, sometimes there awesome, sometimes there a complete lemon. At least with Dell they have a complaints department who are hired to be shouted at.
Guest ZacharyG
well the XPS is BTX and does have room to upgrade hdd's and has pci space available, TBH you can always change the case also

Yeah except you can't understand a damn thing they are saying to you. "Hello my name is GHRUNTYLKAQWNE, I mean... Bob." XPS 700 do have alot of expandability inside, but the case design sucks.... I wish there was company that sold sweet half barebones (Case, Board, Processor, & Liquid Cooling) Warrantied.
VaKo
Not in my expirence, I spoke to a girl who was in the UK and she had a engineer at my house in less than 24 hours. Which is cool considering my laptop had been dropped at a party. And anyway, the guys on the end of the phone in India are not dumb, its just a language barrier, if you take your time and don't act like an ignorant racist hick they're really helpful. (and this is coming from someone who has had his job outsourced to India twice)

(and this is coming from someone who has had his job outsourced to India twice) If you are in fact in the UK, as your profile shows, then it would make sense that you spoke to someone in the UK. Also I would assume you are more use to hearing people with a myriad of accents, as the UK is more diversified then the US, especially where I am presently living. I have a had alot of horrible experience with Dell's & Microsoft's India outsourcing. Most of it has been due to poor line quality though, and they should really set up a skype or higher quality service. In relation to the actual customer service help, I have run into a couple who were very helpful, especially from Dell; but I had a bad experience with Microsoft. I had a Genuine Advantage problem on a Sony laptop I bought from bestbuy. Bestbuy nor sony would handle it as they said it was a Microshaft problem, and I litterally spent 50 minutes on the phone to India; only to have the lady I spoke to tell me I could not speak to her supervisor... and there was nothing she could do about it. P.S. - The name joke thing was not meant as racist, but comical at the simple Anglo Saxon names they normally have them adopt...
VaKo
Try buying threw the buisness side, people who buy 20 computers at once don't want to fuck around with stuff like that. And a fun thing to try is to get the indian guy to give you his real name, and use that. They seem to open up if you do that.
