EDC Bags

I've been meaning to organize my EDC bag. I like the idea of compartmentalizing everything but so far I just kinda toss stuff in to specific parts.

Tactical EDC Bag:

Top flap pouch:

• Various WiFi antennas (1 supporting master mode, ~4 client mode)

Front flap pouch:

• Rubber Ducky

• Micro USB OTG cable

• Small accessories for my Mobius HD camera

Front pouch on main bag:

• Pineapple

• Pineapple Juice 6800

• Raspberry Pi

Main Pouch:

• I don't even know at the moment. I think I keep the little bit of Cat5 that came with the Pineapple in there.

Woot!! Swapped out my work car with a Honda Element. One of our new guys said it was too big. Now I have to build a platform for it... Just replaced the factory stereo with one that has an aux in, drive too far most days to keep a single station tuned in. Now I can plug in my phone. Also built a roof rack yesterday. Used the factory mount points, but built everything else. Used steel angle for the mounts, and unistrut for the structure. Stainless nuts and bolts everywhere else. It was a balmy 7°F in the barn yesterday, so I'll paint up the struts this summer with bed liner paint. For now they should be good, they're galvanized. I did paint the angle brackets, had to sit them in front of the wood shop(love my barn) heater to dry though.

IMG_20150214_201832.jpg

I built it this way because the factory racks are usually too flimsy. I almost collapsed the one on the HHR with 4 pieces of unistrut. Every now and then we set up new conference rooms and the new hotness is hidden projectors and screens. Most buildings don't have the structure above a hung ceiling to hold a screen or projector lift, so we have to build it. That's one of the reasons I carry more construction tools than your average desktop support person or network engineer. Now I have to clean out all the road spray that came in the back. When I went to the hardware store it was just cold, but sunny. When I came out it was almost white out conditions and windy as hell. The unistrut comes in 10 foot sections, and even with them angled and all the way to the dash, the back wouldn't close all the way. There's salt spray crap all the way to the front seats...

LOL. Maybe next time drive a tad slower?

My weather station said the high wind for yesterday was 42mph. I was only doing 45 most of the trip home because no one could see. The wind was blowing into the back, couldn't be helped... Stupid wind. Oh well. Now I can just strap crap to the roof!!

Okay, bringing this thread back on topic, here's my EDC work backpack.

Zalman virtual cd drive. This little guy is kinda cool. It pretends to be a cd rom drive, and lets you select any iso file you want to show up in whatever os you plug it into. Here's what's on it right now.

Tp-link TL-WN722N usb wifi adapter plugged into a 3 port hub.

Ubertooth one in heatshrink.

1st gen Wi-Spy 2.4Ghz spectrum analyzer that I modded to have an external antenna.

DBAN boot cd, found out the hard way it will wipe the virtual cd rom drive...

Wedge-it door wedge. Comes in handy when you're carrying in stuff at a client site and they have self closing doors. It's clipped to the outside of my pac with one of those cheap ass carabiners you get at conventions.

Gerber 650 Evolution. They don't make this one anymore, which sucks, it's really cool. The plier part comes out and is interchangeable. Has the heavy duty wire cutter installed, also has a standard and needle nose ends.

Western Digital 500Gb usb3 drive with various clonezilla drive backups.

Dell Latitude E6410 running Kali full disk encryption. Have my Windows install moved to a virtual machine I run inside Kali for when I actually need a windows program. Also have a displayport to DVI adapter on top.

Couple network cables.

USB hard drive adapter, does both pata and sata.

Bits for the screwdriver I forgot to pull out of the bag.

Lock pick set. Comes in handy for the occasional locked network cabinet that no one has keys for. I've also had to open client offices when they lost keys, or in one case a toddler locked the keys in the office.

Maxpedition Fatty pocket organizer. It gets attached to the side of my pac. Inside has the screwdriver bits, small bit wrench, pentalobe screwdriver, standard and torx small screwdriver set, couple different usb cables, a Kos cable, micro usb to standard A adapter, Cisco serial console cable, usb to serial adapter, and a Triple 8 Professional Wright Knife.

Impressive. You can get the VE400 for 50 euro and the VE300 for 35. Add a disk and you're good to go.

Never seen, let alone used this product myself. Pretty damned awesome.

Does the Zalman also allow you to "boot from disc"? Or is it only seen as a CD drive by the OS once it boots?

It is seen by the host computer as either a usb hard drive, or usb cdrom drive, it can also do both, but it's kinda buggy for me that way. It can boot machines as a cdrom drive though. I use it that way most of the time.

Yep.

Ohhh, looks like the new ones are USB3 and sata internal. Mine is USB2.

Yeah and for so little new, these are a bargain and so damn useful.

Thank you for pointing it out I honestly didn't know something like this existed.

I know the HakShop doesn't sell the every day carry (EDC) bags apart from the Pineapple bundles but has there been any thought on doing so? I bought the tactical bundle a few months back but I really like the new EDC bag that Darren had on the last episode. I would buy a new bundle as I can justify having an additional Pineapple but with my luck you guys will release the MKVI right after I get the new bundle, lol.

Just looks like a 5.11 Push Pack or Maxpedition Versipack both of which are better made, although I'm not a fan of the man purse.

My work bag is fairly boring just a high spec MacBook Pro, a few pens, my ID, and the company phone and car keys. This is my personal bag at the moment.

The bag all this crap fits into is a Lowepro Classified 250 AW

bIsN3oH.jpg

and in it currently:

Q7yQGG0.jpg

I don't always have the PICKIT 3 with me or the USB logic analyzer and the meter gets swapped out for one of my other Flukes, if I'm playing with HV or need a data connection for logging.

Upgraded the EDC bag carrier....

20150221_175703.jpg

3/4 inch exterior grade plywood. Rabbeted and screwed together. I'll pull it out and glue it when it warms back up. I used toggle bolts and wire to attach the front part to the cargo tie downs in the middle. Then the back part has four pieces of angle iron screwed to the uprights that slide into the same spot on the front. Hopefully it keeps the deck mostly even, have to be able to get to the spare tire under the back deck, so it can't be bolted down.
