Anonymous123 Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 Is a bitcoin miner only for bitcoin or can I mine other coins that use sha256? Is a butterfly labs 10 gh/s worth $50? At a unit price of $10 per 1gh/s is pretty good. Electricity usage is not a problem for me. Quote
cooper Posted January 19, 2015 Posted January 19, 2015 (edited) Butterfly Labs is a scam. The only cost to a miner is the device to mine with and the electricity bill. The first item is fixed, the second is variable. When your only have the fixed cost to consider, all you have to wonder about is how long you need to keep the device running before you get your money back. In other words, you could do this with a stack of Raspberry Pi's (very much *NOT* mining gear) and come out ahead. Also, the concept of an ASIC is that it's a dedicated device. It's purpose-built for that specific task so chances are they can't do much of anything else. Edited January 19, 2015 by Cooper Quote
Anonymous123 Posted January 19, 2015 Author Posted January 19, 2015 Than what asic miner do you recommend? $50 is a good price but I would like 10 gh/s or higher for that price or 1 gh/s for $10. Quote
