Masterpyro
I am looking for a file compressor(duh) that will make multiple videos (in a folder) as small as possible and when decompressed, still have the best quality they can have. So far I have tried: Method Input Output .zip 4.86GB 4.13GB .7z 4.86GB took too long so I stopped it divx 178Mb 178.1MB ?!? Any others that i should try? Links Appreciated. cooper
when decompressed, still have the best quality they can have. That bit is too vague. "The best quality they can have". Do you want the original back or not? If not, how much can be left out for the resulting film to still be acceptable to you?

take it take
.rar is pretty good for most things, but not sure about videos. You can be our guinea pig and try it out.
cooper
http://www.cs.fit.edu/~mmahoney/compression/ Give that one a spin. It'll be slow, but should compress really well.
jool
Compressing already compressed video is pretty much just a waste of time, especially with codecs like xvid/divx. They are so good at compressing the video that most other algorithms just see random data. With mpeg-2, what's on dvds, you can squeeze some extra bytes out of a file with regular compression but you would get a much better result from recompressing the video with a different codec. But that isn't quick and it can be a bit of trial and error to get the quality that you want.

What about ogg vorbis?! ;) That is exacly right, key example: compress an MP3, notice how the file size, for all intents and purposes, is the same. Spartain X
the best path as mentioned is using divx/xvid (i prefer using AutoGK (GPL,open source)) and for the file compressor you better off using winrar or 7zip (i prefer again 7zip(GPL, Open source) but with the video file compressed using one of those two programs you will not be saving that much space many be one or two megas at max
